My experiences with social media and art
I am not big into social media, to the point where I be like a grandma, but I did notice the difference between certain apps. Over the years I have used Amino, Reddit, Deviant art and then here to post my art and gotta say, Furaffinity is straight up better.
Amino was great, really felt like I had my own corner of the internet. Got to build a micro community and it could have become something (if I didn't ditch it) but the key word here is was. I went to check the same groups I was in back in the day and my god is a Amino dead. Even the Pokémon Amino was a total wasteland and that saddens me a lot.
Reddit is great for groups, but terrible for building yourself as an individual. No one ever checked your profile unless the were stalking or wanted to do a comeback. You only existed the moment you posted inside a subreddit and that was that. Conversations were all arguments, fun.
Deviant art was by far the worst though. Growing up I was always told Deviant art was the place for small artists to post and talk about things. The place for the weird and experimental. I guess that was true one day. I am not saying the art has gotten worse (it has gotten better), what I mean is Deviant art is real hard to grow as an artist. It took me ages just to get 3 followers and I was lucky if my posts got any traction. It felt really bad whenever I would make a comment and no one answered (and that was always the case).
Just in one day of posting here I feel like I am in Amino again. I mean, I got my own journal, what is this the 2010s XD? I wonder if others have gotten different experiences with these other apps. If you are reading this and you do, feel free to share :D.
