I'd keep art as a fun hobby. With it being so subjective, having a niche audience, it can have varying degrees of success. A job can at least have a steady means of income (if that is the concern) and then art can be a side job for extra income so what you get from it is a bonus instead of a necessity. Then it can also be fun, put limited hours on it for a work/life balance, maintaining the fun factor without the burnout or discouragement.

That's not really my problem here though

If you still enjoy it, like Windscar was saying, maybe just have it as a hobby so you don't burn yourself out on set completely.

Art should be a side hobby for fun. If your not having fun then maybe it's time for a change...

Maybe keep it as a side hobby instead of making it your job? At least until you properly have everything in place? I heard trying to make something you love your job can be a bad idea if done incorrectly.
