A change in the payment of future commissions / YCH
8 months ago
Quick journal to tell 2 things I've decided.
1.- In the future I won't start commissions / ych until I've been payed at least 40% to 50% of the price.
Normally I started and, most times, finished things before getting payed, so I'm going to change that.
And 2.- After the Easter YCH closes I'll finally open my commissions!!!
Everything after that ych will be with the first thing I mentioned.
So yeah, that's all. I plan to take a break on easter, so I want to finish most pending things before that.

Every single artist I've commissioned frequently over the years have all gone to full prepayment model.
A few have gone to full prepayment just to secure a slot, but I advise not doing this just yet unless your queues are routinely small, you're very confident on your work ethic, and/or your turnaround is fast enough that the majority of your clients (about 70%) won't ask about progress or wait times.
What you've encountered with people not paying will start occurring with increasing regularity as you become recognized. Many who do not have the intention of paying will see you as an opportunity to get free art before you too decide to swap to a prepayment system, and even then you will have to account for losses with chargebacks and disputes. Even partial payments will not solve this, and with the frequent use of AI generation, it is becoming increasingly easy to generate a colored model based off of a sketch using your art gallery as a LoRA.
I have become very fond of the themes in your artwork, CrumbleUmble, and you are attracting attention from other popular TF commissioners who have been around for quite sometime, witnessing your artwork improve. I want you to improve and succeed in your artistry, and not doing prepayments is one of the many pitholes I want you to avoid. Please heed my words well, and I look forward to seeing more of your artwork.
Lastly, happy birthday! One of my favorite TF artist, Tomek, is open for commission. Let me know if you're interested in splitting a commission with me. ^.~
I would ask for full payment, but I feel really bad if I ask for money when I have nothing done (I feel bad in general asking for payment, for me at least feels like a lot, even if the price is cheap compared to most people). That's why I feel like half is fair for now.
Also, thanks!!! and thanks!!!!!!!!!!
I like Tomek's art, he's one of the first TF artists I saw. So, I'm up to splitting a commission with you <3
