Strange mystery screaming
I don’t believe in ghosts, but my girlfriend and I have experienced strange things in the apartment we live in. My place overlooks a graveyard that dates back to the 1910s, making it one of the oldest in the city.
One night, my brother was over at around 9 PM. I was relaxing in the bath before bed, while my brother was in my office playing on my computer. As I unwound, I started to hear what sounded like a scream. At first, I didn’t think much of it and assumed it was just the wind, so I ignored it. But the sound grew louder, and soon I could make out words like “No! Stop it!” and “Oh God, why, why, why!”
That’s when I quickly got out of the bath, got dressed, and started listening more closely. My brother came into my room, alarmed by the noise, which confirmed I wasn’t imagining it, something was definitely happening. Initially, I thought the sound was coming from my neighbour's apartment. Concerned for her safety, I went to her door and knocked. She answered, completely fine, with her two kids standing behind her and curious about why I was there.
I explained what I’d heard, and she asked her kids to turn off the TV so we could listen together. Soon, she started hearing it too. She immediately called the police. I returned to my apartment and kept listening. Here’s the crazy part, the screams seemed to move. At first, they sounded like they were coming from my neighbour's apartment, but then they shifted to the other side of my place, then to my ceiling, then to my floor and then back to the wall where my neighbour was. If you put your ear to the wall, it was almost as if the sound was coming from inside the walls.
The screaming continued for about 20 to 30 minutes, all while I kept watching out the window for the police. The moment their sirens appeared in the distance, the screaming suddenly stopped. Everything went completely silent. And it stopped the very second you saw the lights as if someone switched off the volume completely not even a slight whimper or word it just stopped. It was bizarre.
When the police arrived, they searched the building and questioned every resident, but no one could confirm they were responsible for the screams. The officers eventually spoke with my brother and me about what we’d heard, I said it wasnt a scream like someone was scared but a scream like someone just found their dog beheaded, and after that they left without making any arrests. To this day, I don’t know whether it was a ghost or a couple caught in an argument too embarrassed to confess to the police. The screams never happened again but I always listen carefully to see if they do.

The reason it moved could have been sound echoing through the pipes/ventilation.
As for what it was, it could have been anything.
Arguing couple, someone's television, an elaborate prank, psychic rats, or who knows what.
Hopefully, no one was hurt.
It sounds like it might be the graveyard, or maybe a local banshee or possibly ghost.
It's called Audio Pareidolia, unclear statistical noise, in this case real noise, reinterpreted as best fit words. Pareidolia is behind things like automatic writing, picking out supposed letters in jumbled scribbles; and seeing faces in toast. One great example is a short on YouTube asking what you hear, then presenting several possible sentences, when it is really just shouted noises to the tune of "La Donna e mobile". You "hear" whichever sentence you are reading.
In a graveyard, depending on urbanity level and location, you're looking at deer, coyotes, lynxes, foxes, or cougars.
Just my best guess.
Idk, I just know I believe there's some spooky stuff out there.
