Get off Twitter, go to Bluesky, it's just like Twitter only better than it was before...well, you know.

I'll be totally honest, I really don't know anything that's been going on with all the websites recently. I'm usually avoidant of mainstream drama in the first place, but I also stay busy enough IRL that I miss a lot of what's going on sometimes. If I understand correctly, Twitter has come under new management??
I really just made one so I could do a lil expansion on getting my work out there. Bluesky is still in consideration for me, but I'm worried if I start making a ton of new accounts on other sites, Ill get too overwhelmed.
Can I ask what Bluesky has going on with it? IT's still kinda new, I think, so I didnt know how good it's be for me to use.

All I can say is that functionally it's the same as Twitter, but unlike Twitter it's a better space to navigate.

So, the founder, main programmer, something, of Twitter quit and made Bluesky. It is roughly the same as 2017 Twitter, which some people loved and other people hated, so your mileage may vary.

On Bluesky, Tweets are called Skeets, which is urban slang for jizzing on/in someone but is intended to be clean/reclaimed, It's the 'Sky version of Tweet! Sky-Tweet = Skeet!

Anyhow, the guy who made Bluesky then quit because they're making the same mistakes Twitter was making.

I'm on both, was on BS before it was cool, and billionty other places and use none of them. It works okay, I guess, but everyone is going to pester you to go there so you might as well.

The main advantage is Elon Musk's tweets won't be perma-boosted and always showing up on your feed. If you post enough it might drive commissions.

Politics aside, Twitter's algorithms are totally borked, and it's harder to follow artists on there. FWIW I gave you a follow, but you'd probably have an easier time of getting your art seen over on Bsky.

Agreed with Teenkitsune. Bluesky is better. It’s a less toxic version of Twitter. Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022, renamed it X, and has been running the site into the ground to promote alt righters and inflate his own ego. Not to say pre-Elon Twitter was great. The site was already a dumpster fire, and Elon just poured more fuel on it.

Would you happen to know about how either site works n terms of any kind of algorythm?
Twitter seems to be significantly larger in terms of user base, so I was hoping it would provide a chance for a small-name artist like me to get my work out there, so to speak.
I can consider bluesky as well, but like I told teenkitsune; im just doing one website at a time right now so I dont accidently overwhelm myself.
And for the political stuff, Im not interested in that, I literally just wanna keep things to art, maybe some writing, I dunno.

I don’t know how algorithms work so I’m the wrong person to ask. Elon though has changed Twitter so that verification (indicated by blue check marks next to someone’s username) is now something users have to pay for, and will boost your tweets in reply threads and make them more likely to be seen by other users. However I don’t think it’s worth paying for. Elon is having everyone’s tweets and images fed into AI, and doesn’t care about supporting human artists. These days, I only use Twitter to keep track of artists that haven’t moved to other sites yet, while I post all my new art exclusively on Bluesky. I don’t expect Bluesky to overtake Twitter barring a freak accident that destroys Twitter, but it’s a healthier community. My advice to anyone using Twitter now if you REALLY have to is to just block Elon and any freaks he signal boosts, and keep to whatever community you enjoy.

Yeah that's pretty lame; I saw that 'Verified" thing and figured it would essentially be paying to get interaction, which I'm NOT interested in. That's empty, hollow, and I want REAL people to interact with because they -want- to, not someone who's being paid to do it. If other people want it, that's fine, I won't stop them, but it's a no-go for me.
Unfortunately, it seems like everything is being turned in to feed AI, which is another reason I've only stuck consistently to fA. Was pretty frustrated with deviantart doing it, and then suddenly trying to backtrack on implementing an opt-out system AFTER they let AI scrape the entire site. \
Thanks for the advice on blocking, I don't usually use it unless someone has been a real jerk to me directly, but it seems like I might have to start doing it for this site.

I Highly recommend bluesky better, functions all like twitter but better company and suits for artist and they still updating worth time there better algorithm. Its worth making account there.

My twitter page still there but i deleted all my content art... just not worth time there till site given to better owner (who not a nazi, hates trans and artists), to many problems to media cause to much stress/mental health way people are on there now.

Im considering Bluesky, but for now, Im just gonna try Twitter and see how it goes. I dont want to get overwhelmed with making a bunch of accounts everywhere, and then trying to keep them updated. Its a big reason ive only stayed with Furaffinity for so long...
Yeah, it seems stressful if you start looking at the politics on twitter, thats why I only want to upload art, and maybe see if I can find anything relevant to my art interests. I would kinda like to interact with more people, too, but since Bluesky has a smaller user base, I figured I could maybe try it if twitter doesnt work out.

I really couldnt care less about the political drama, which Im guessing to be a big reason that people went to Bluesky, but... I just wanna draw and share. Im also primarily a sfw artist, so the outrage on censoring art mmmmaaaybe wont apply to me? Unless they start banning furry art alltogether, then Ill be having issues XD

People are trying just so hard to will bluesky to take over, but it really has no chance in hell of every doing that. We're talking 259 million users a day on X next to Bluesky with like 3.5 mil. Baring some other unforeseen factors X isn't going anywhere, so it's just going to have the bigger reach.

But ehh, I'd say try them both for a week or two and see if one appeals to you better.

Yeah, being able to potentially reach a lot more people is a big reason for me to try Twitter first. I dont care about the politics, so I feel like Ill probably be okay there???
It kinda reminds me of Furaffinity; lots of people have jumped ship from here, but the respundig complaint I see with that has been a generally huge lack of user interaction when they leave. Its not everyone, but Ive been around for a while now to notice this kind of pattern.
Thanks for the advice! I honestly kinda hope Twitter works out well enough that I wont feel the need to scour the internet for more art sites to use; that sounds rough!

People really have an overinflated sense of how much Rocket Man actually changed Twitter and how many people actually care about said changes.

Recommend to just be on bluesky. there isn't an algorithm so people will see your stuff live. but more people that share your stuff help it get more visibility.

The lack of an algorithm on fA is a really huge reason as to why I like it here. The live uploads being visible is really good in my opinion, and I'm, personally, more inclined to use/stay on sites that are considered a lil bit more lower tech.

Also Twitter using your content for AI training was a big thing for people getting off Twitter.

Well, like I mentioned above, I'm not someone who bothers with internet drama- of which Twitter always seemed to have a lot of from the bits and pieces that i've ever heard about it. Up until recently, I had thought Twitter was pretty much exclusively a text-based social media site, not something that people used to promote their art on, so I avoided it.
I'm not going to Twitter for political support; I literally would just like to get more engagement on my art/personal artistic interests, and the site came up highly recommended..

I'm getting more interaction on a random lil journal than the vast majority of my art has ever gotten since I've joined Furaffinity 10+ years ago.
I'm human, I would love to get nice feedback on what I draw and write more often, and this is why I'm considering joining other sites, so I appreciate any recommendations (it doesn't have to be Bluesky or Twitter, it can be other stuff).

Post something political and you'll get pages and pages of interaction. You only have to look at AlexSpastic's or meh... forgot the name. Guy posted a fat turkey supporting Canadian Truckers during the end of the pandemic and got hundreds of comments. Very illuminating and depressing. Spend hours working on a piece, be lucky to get 3.

Sometimes I'm worried that I'm -too- into my own thoughts, to the point that I'm overexaggerating to myself.
Politics is something that I used to be more open about when I first 'joined' the internet community fresh out of high school, but I eventually tapered off of that and wanted to focus more on drawing and sharing what I made, instead of getting involved in political drama. I'm surrounded by it when I leave my house, why surround myself with it when I'm home?

Honestly; I'm probably being a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to feedback. I'd love to get more of it as an artist, but at the same time, I don't give out comments nearly as much as I should. I've been wanting to try and challenge myself to 'leave a comment a day' on someone else's art, even if it's just a lil ole thing.
You're so kind! I would never want someone to feel obligated to comment on anything I do, though. I know I said I like it and would enjoy more of it, but getting hollow praise would hurt me more than nothing (but seriously, you're so nice, I always enjoy seeing what you have to say <3)

Oof this is painful to read and I can't lie I was ready to give my 2 cents on the Twitter vs bluesky debacle.

I know there are bots you can set up to crosspost your art to all the sites at once so it's less management for you but I'm not super familiar with using them myself.

I do wish you the best of luck with whatever other socials you use though.

I din't realize just how inflammatory people could get over twitter, but I'm always happy to hear what people have to say; so long as they ain't being an absolute turd to me about it.
I'll probably just skip on the bots; I know somone who uses them, but they've got more sites they upload on, and they also draw more frequently than me, so I think it's better in that case for someone to have.

I wish there was a better site for artists right now. I still think Furaffinity and Deviantart have/had the best basic format for posting and faving art, but FA is too niche and DA has crippled itself removing all the features that MADE it usable and now it's just an AI money laundering racket.

Yeah, I'm with you on this. I'd even considered joining older sites like VCLArt (my first real exposure to the furry art world), but I've always gotten errors on trying to join, so I gave up years ago. I did make a sofurry, and weasyl when those came out, but started having the same problem of slacking on uploads, because between thos, deviantart, and here, it was a little tiresome. I'vebeen wanting to go back to those as well, but I'm permanently locked out of my account because I can't recover the email for them. I've been considering making a new name for those sites, but....one thing at a time, I guess.
As for deviantart; UGH! I used to love the saite when I joined, but over the last several years, it just got worse, and like you said; it's an AI money scheme that makes the site a nightmare anymore.I just have my account up for archival purposes at this point, honestly.

Pretty much the same. I actually used to be a Community Volunteer for DA (... about... a decade ago, oh lord I'm old). My account is 18 years old so I can't bring myself to delete all that personal history, but I stopped uploading any new content a couple years ago out of a kind of protest for the AI crap.
