My thoughts on the Nintendo Switch 2.

General
I know a lot of people have talked about this, and so too do I wish to talk about it.
HOWEVER, I am coming at it from a different angle.
Even if the console and games were the usual price I don't think I would be that interested. I have gotten a lot of use and gameplay out of my Switch, but the thing is is that it is more indie games than Nintendo exclusive games.
In fact a friend of mine asked me if I had a top 10 favorite games on the Switch. So I looked through my Switch game library and added every game I liked to a notepad. After compiling this list I then weeded it down to just 10 games. Lo and behold ALL TEN of the games were indie games, not even any 3rd party "AAA" games were amongst the list.
So this got me to thinking, IF I am to ever get a new computer, it may be better for me to get one that can also play the usual indie games I would want to play.
"But what about any exclusive Nintendo games that may come to the Switch 2?"
Here's the thing, I haven't been to fond of the direction Nintendo has been taking with a lot of their games. For as fun as Super Mario Odyssey was, I am still not THAT fond of it. As someone who likes to 100% games this game is NOT an enjoyable game to 100% for me, or even just get all 880 unique Moons.
Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, I may be in the minority but I will be honest i that I do not like it. It lacks what I want out of an adventure game like that, I don't care for the massive open world style and prefer a smaller game world, the lack of proper dungeons is a MAJOR downside, and several other issues.
I know Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom exists, but for some reason I have no desire to play it. I am not fond of the core gameplay gimmick and if that sounds like a crap reason whatever. shrugs
When Super Mario Bros Wonder came out I felt no need to get it. My reason being is if I want to play a 2D side scroller I will just get an indie 2D side scroller. Which on that subject, Pizza Tower, I paid $20 for it, have played it more than 10 times, and I will BET I have gotten more enjoyment out of that game than I would have Super Mario Bros Wonder. In fact Pizza Tower has become my 6th favorite game of ALL games that I have played.
So because of all this, I don't exactly have the utmost faith in the next games in a respective Nintendo IP to be entertaining to me. Not when I could look around for an indie game which is a fraction of the price and may provide better entertainment to me.
So regardless of price, I know I will be skipping the Nintendo Switch 2. Or at least I will wait and see if anything of worth comes to it, but I am not sure what it would take.

I say it to my friends all the time, but if you aren't interested in Nintendo titles, then a Deck would fit far better. (I hear the complaint that the Deck isn't as portable, but is the Switch really more portable??? Its also fairly large.) And If the urge to enjoy a Nintendo title pops in your head, then you can just emulate. Not to mention you can just use a Deck as a regular computer with a desktop and periferals.
I do think the Switch 2 is going to be a hot seller, NEW HARDWARE AFTER A DECADE.
But for the price? I would say absolutely not worth the value.
I do SOME handheld gaming on the Switch, but that is not my primary way of playing it.
If the Steamdeck could EASILY hook up to a TV similarly to a Switch it would be something I would consider.
There's even a dedicated dock that can be purchased seperately.
It's like a uber-portable gaming laptop with a controller built in!
In my case, I've been a life-long pokemon fan and yet Cassette Beasts has become one of my favorite games casting a lot of other pokemon games aside (and while Legends ZA has my attention I refuse to get whatever gen 10 is opening week at the least if at all depending on its state after the sad release that was Scarlet/Violet). I also didn't really care for BotW too, skipped TotK basically because of it, so you're not alone there.
I still have an interest in the Switch 2 because I play most of my main games at home on PC so that would be my portable/"extra" as I have a lot of friend who main nintendo games over PC so that's my bridge to them. Though with how many seem to be playing more PC games, this could be a whole skip for some of them too.
But man those game prices XDDDD genuinely huge turnoff, and I'm really interested in Bananza. So I'll wait for Nintendo to put out some more games before I transition, maybe next year, I can still get Metroid Prime 4 on Switch 1. And I am also an indie gamer so I'm not really missing anything major either (I do hope they get that Ender Magnolia compatibility issue fixed? I just bought it for Switch 1 and I would like to play it on the next one too XDDDD).
However after the announcement, I'm EVEN MORE repelled from getting a Switch 2. Theres alot of cons that just sour my interest. The price of new games being around $80-$90 (potentially above $100 with how fast the price changes are, if tariffs don't fuck things further). Then there's openly supporting the BS--and potentially plastic-wasting act--of selling physical cases that dont have the games in the cartridges (I know its not a new thing. Some companies have done that on the Switch 1). While I haven't played online much, there's been accounts about how poor online connections are for the more demanding games. With how they showed the 5 fps streams from other players on their Not-Discord feature, I feel like it might overheat Nintendo's 20+ year old servers.
Even then, outside of a few AAA/first-party games, I don't have much confidence for most titles to be good or not ridden with microtransactions or game-breaking bugs. That or games like Gamefreak's Pokemon looking like an intern's rough Unity build. Most times, I've been playing older titles and/or indie games.
I'm sorry if I come across as harsh but it's clear Nintendo is getting cocky. They knew stuff like the prices would be a big issue for consumers and resorted to have other places report on it, instead.
