When it comes to robots specifically, there's the idea of swapping the "chips" of whoever's "piloting" the current body. Could be extrapolated for a more sci-fi thing with biological creatures :>

In your imagination, how does body swapping work? I find it philosophically pretty interesting, since usually you'll have two people who are physically exactly the same after the exchange, yet their sense of self seems to be the thing that's swapped. How can that be? Even with magic, what's actually going on? Is it their 'soul' that's swapping? And, if it is, what's the function of the brain that it somehow is completely unaffected by this? Or perhaps a better question: if a physical alteration is happening in the brain, since the brains aren't literally physically swapped, surely each person (in a sense) 'dies' (by having the molecular structure of their brain completely altered) and then a brand new version of the other person is instantaneously 'born', just with the perception that they're in the wrong body. Which is pretty terrifying, especially since it'd need to happen again on the swap back...

Heh, I guess it depends how you want to play it. If you went super hardcore sci-fi then yeah it would probably be a "mind is a plaything of the body" situation where you slowly lose your sense of self to the new body, instinct, etc.
I don't take it that far into the weeds usually. More of a your ego is the same, but in a new body. You'd have to adjust to it like if you were suddenly way taller or something, but certain things would just be instinctual to the body, I guess. Like if you swapped with a bird guy you might 'know' how to fly a little.

It's usually too 'complete' for my tastes tbh. A lot of the appeal of transformation for me is the physical aspects - all the juicy in-betweens, the mix-and-match, things growing and shrinking (but mostly growing), all that gewd stuff. Your works on the subject are a bit of an exception for me in that sense, and it's mostly because your characters are just that fun, so seeing them in these scenarios is also fun :p

But what if... gradual body swap, where the two gain each other's physical and mental traits over a longer period?? Manya developing a strong love for Italian cuisine as her midsection fills out to reflect this new trait, gradual accent swapping... obviously she hates all of this thoroughly. Meanwhile, D is caught off-guard by a sudden, loud purr rumbling from her chest as she tries to flirt with someone.

Well then I'm happy to hear it. That would be a pretty fun situation too. The slow realization of what's going on ~

I rather like body swapping, as it pertains to anthro characters I think it’s most fun to see the most different characters getting to experience things the other either couldn’t physically, or has little experience with (like a canine swapping into an avian and dealing with a beak and or wings). I myself also find something amusing about mundane species swapping bodies (like two canines or felines) and exploring minor differences they wouldn’t have considered, such as new scents or social stereotypes. I feel you could get interesting with the social aspect of various species / breeds. Though that may just be me!

Yesss I'm working on some stuff like that now with different species traits. Like if you turned from mammal to reptile it would be so bizarre to have no hair at all. But intra-species is cool too. Like a doberman swapping with a poodle. Same species but very different experience.

Yeah! Something as simple as learning to deal with sudden curly fur seems super fun to me! Good ole poodle treatment is always a tough canine’s worst nightmare, hah!

Yep a lovely concept in many potential ways. My one quirk on it being that those swapped should have the voice of the person they now appear as. ;3 Always bugged me when anything like that happened in a cartoon and their voices swapped also, I'm sure it was just to make it easier to know who was in who's body but it always just seemed silly to me. ^^;

Not sure if this already exists but what about a sort of 'were' body swapping? Every full moon two or more individuals swap bodies, possibly in that classic extremely dramatic way of older stories though that tends to be obviously quite painful though I would find using that method to transform into something otherwise technically mundane, just another person rather than a beast/monster, rather amusing. All that build up and horrified gesticulating and you just end up looking like your neighbor or spouse. *chuckles*

Also brings into question whether now having another individuals brain would immediately, or slowly, alter the mind of the other person now inside it. I think it surely would at least a little unless working with totally magical means preventing that. Either way it's always an incredible method of character exploration and even development, not to mention being potentially hot as heck.

Definitely with the voices. I neglected to do that for my last couple, but I decided that a character's accent/ voice stays with the body, but their diction stays with them. So you 'sound' like the new body but talk like yourself.

Were swapping or like recurring swapping is a great idea and sounds like a Star Trek plot. Like what if every Friday was Freaky Friday and you just can't reverse it.

I definitely think over time you'd start to adapt to the body's tastes and instincts to some degree. Like if you turn into a cat you start kind of liking fish even though you don't in your body. Little things like that are fun to think about.

I think body swapping is a cool idea, whether it happens between two agreeable parties, or forced on someone (villains and heroes).

I do agree with having the voices stay with the bodies, but the diction and cadence gets swapped.

What would he interesting to see is that if a villain takes over the body of a hero, would je eventually think like a hero? Kind of a body corruption if you will. But just my crazy idea.

If they did swap I feel like being treated like a hero would probably effect the villain. That was a theme in Megamind, right? Where he was always treated like a villain so that's just what he fell into. That is a really fun swap though.

It's not exactly a willing body swap, but I remember loving the body swap between Jimmy and Cindy from Jimmy neutron, especially sense there's a moment where Jimmy even starts to think like her.

My favorite aspect of a full body swap is having to suddenly, and literally, fit into someone else's shoes, the life they have set up for themselves. That can be really hard, since unless the other person is literally coaching you, you're just working from context clues. Even if that person is coaching you, they will probably miss something since its so natural for them! I don't think about where I keep my toothbrush for example, its just where I keep it, and having to communicate that kind of thing to someone else is surprisingly tricky!

Then there's the fact that if you were to swap with another person it would really mess with your mental map of where your body is at any given time- it's called 'proprioception' and its actually a lot more of a factor in our daily life than we realize, to the point that someone who has recently lost a limb will still 'feel' that limb even though it's not there anymore. I imagine that after a body swap, that mental self image hasn't had time to adjust at first, so the swapped people will have trouble moving around as confidently as they usually do- limbs are a different length, your walking pace is completely different due to altered leg proportions. And that's even assuming you are a human swapping with another human- if you're swapping between species then you get all kinds of fun new possibly details!

Sometimes body swap is a bit too 'poof/instant TF' for my taste but it can still be really fun if done well, and I've used it several times in stories of mine, including one where a human and a gryphon get swapped as a way of teaching them to get along!

Yesss. You're in someone's body -and- life. And some of those little details you'll just have to figure out over the days, weeks, years you're like that. Eventually you might start to feel like it's 'your' life, but I imagine you'd wake up sometimes thinking you're back in your old body or startle yourself looking in the mirror occasionally.
I read a book recently where someone instantly swapped with a giant and yeah it was super disorienting. You'd definitely be a little clumsy and awkward for a while unless you're swapping with someone exactly your shape and size. But that's part of the fun 😈

Yeah the awkward bits of disorientation are some of my favorite parts of a body swap, and transformations in general- ironically the transformation is less fun, actually, than the adaptation that comes afterwards! Like, if you suddenly have a tail for example, how many times will you have a bad experience with a door closing on said tail before you start paying attention to that kind of thing? If you end up with fur, are you going to have to pay attention to that constantly so you can keep it looking tidy or does it sort of solve itself? I absolutely love thinking about that kind of thing!

Post-TF is the best part, correct! So much adjusting to do.

Shoutouts to Limbus Company making that their April Fools Event. Everyone swapped bodies and they all had different appearances to match the swapped personalities but the same VAs had to adapt to the new quirks.

Also it involves a kid getting into a tantrum while in the body of one of the strongest people ever and beating you to death with her stuffy.

A fun situation for bodyswapping i find fun is exploiting your bodies weaknesses, teasing your partner or friend whose in your body by touching tickle spots or sensitive areas in a way you only know of which can also go sexual.

This is a big part of why I like twinning. You can do some cool psychological, empathy-building stuff with it, too, especially in writing/RP. I haven't found much of an interest in body swap personally because most of the time there's no actual TF.

Love the kind where you change body types, a femboy hulking out while their dude bro twinkifies is some good stuff right there, or maybe you just trade beautiful assets with your girlfriend that's some magical cinema right there~

I like it for the same reasons as Modularity and Transformation more broadly. Either to keep things new and interesting or to improve yourself in some way. For swaps (parts or whole bodies), I like them more when both sides consent so I don't feel bad for one side. As for ideas! Maybe they lose a bet and have to take over for them at work for a bit, or... (lost the train of thought)

Having it be part of intimacy and exploring the feelings of another body are fun as well, and I hope that appears more in pics of Roy and/or Manya! (as each other, of course). I can also see DD getting involved mostly to amuse herself more than having any actual plans about what to do after the swap.
