Why do you hate a new feature being added to this website?

It's not right, having 2 names is too much for FurAffinity to handle, it's going to cause unnecessary confusion. Hence it must be removed so I can properly return.

It looks like FA is handling having two names fine as is, considering it's functioning and the vast majority of people have been asking for this for a very long time. Can you at all quantify your claims and fears?

The only people who have been confused are the ones that refuse to move off classic and/or did not read that its functionality is accessed in the modern theme. (This is an incredibly small number of people.)

Unfortunately FA's staff said that the Display Names system ALSO affects Classic, since separating the update would be a nightmare.

But seriously, I just hate the system's implementation here on FurAffinity. DeviantArt doesn't use such a system. Because they don't need it, neither does FurAffinity. The Display Names system was only meant for Discord.

So this is a patch solution to tide us over until we can just change our usernames properly. For free.

DA doesn't have a display name function, but you can change your name for a monetary cost.

FA will have DA's renaming feature, more or less, and for free. The only difference is the display name which is inconsequential provided display name and account name are clearly differentiated, and they are.

You can hate it all you want, it feels a bit irrational to kick up a stink over this.

Why not just make your criticism in an attempt to highlight a potential issue and wait for a response instead of acting so rashly?

Then I wouldn't be getting anywhere. Just like how Ubisoft & Nintendo are both suffering from their terrible decisions, Sites like FurAffinity have also went through periods of suffering too, there are many journals that fundamentally question FA's update decisions.

But those decisions are made with the idea of restricting and taking away from their consumers purely for monetary gains. Like DA is letting itself fall apart and actively encourages scammers and AI shop fronts, making choices that deliberately stifle and goes against the well being of it's core user-base and has been doing so for almost a decade.

This choice is a directly being made as a pro-consumer move. It is purely for the users of FA. This is a part of FA making better choices to improve the website and community as it is a simple, highly requested feature that has been extremely well received.

The journals that have questioned FA's update decisions, most of them happened in relevance to the website's stagnancy and disrepair. This update is intended to be the start of turning that around. Since these recent updates the vibes and sentiment has been positive more than anything.

I don't think you quite realise this yet, but making threats of leaving is only going to draw negative attention to you over something like this. That kind of threat also requires you to have weight to throw around, if you understand what I'm saying?

You are one user, presenting yourself as problematic and troublesome, with no presence on this website, no contributions other than complaints and a history of drama and harassment, and seemingly no following on other websites to bring here.

Making threats is the fastest way to have people against you.

One less user could mean others could follow suit. Simple as that. There were many occasions of mass exoduses on FurAffinity.

Yeah and those times it was over something that was largely considered by most people as a bad move. (And having been there for them, most people come back within a month and nothing was accomplished)

But this is largely considered a good move. And the admin team is being receptive to feedback in regards to this "issue" which is giving people hope in more changes.

Why would anyone follow you when things are looking up? Instead of staying and helping the site grow?

Why would someone come to that conclusion about you? Case-in-point, you're still here, and you responded within minutes, after you've said you're leaving to boycott the website.
After you spent a good hour or so whining on the recent FA status journal posted after your leaving declaration.
That's what children do.

If you have integrity, go into your settings and disable your account. Because like the people before you who have performed the "mass exodus", they actually didn't log in for months. Some even lost their account passwords and started over when they came back.

But you're still here. Attempting to threaten FA with you leaving to get your way. You actually have to follow through for a boycott to have a chance of working.

Otherwise what you're doing is more or less harassing the staff, moderation and admin teams and intentionally causing drama. Unlike DA, drama stirring and harassment aren't tolerated.

That's not leaving. And you're actively using the website. You're active. And that's not following through, that's not helping you at all.

Look, I'm only trying to help you realise that this isn't the righteous cause to rally around and form a resistance group to. This isn't some DA-style "us against them" drama ring.

This is where adults come to talk about adult topics. You weren't there for it, but there were a lot of meaningful discussions had around Display Names and username changing. The consensus by a wide margin was that FA needs to have the ability for users to change their names.

This isn't being done because the staff just thought it was good. This is being done because a lot of people with varying reasons, from trauma and dysphoria to just having a new identity within the fandom, have said it's what they want. This is a community driven change that FA is finally acting on.

The only people this is registering as an issue for is you and the few you know of. You are ignoring a lot of people's very real and very valid reasons to have a name change feature because... FA updated classic to support that? That it's confusing at the very first glance?
You'd rather people just go to DA or suffer with using a dead-name, or one that carries trauma?

You had an opportunity to weigh in, you were rude and demanding and ignored what people had to say, like you have been doing with me.

Which boils down to this.
You're being reductive and trying to mobilise people to engage in drama.

This isn't a childish war from DA. This is a community discussion and decision making process. You were outvoted. Stay and be productive to help, or leave.
