that lottery system they have was all sorts of jacked, you had people getting 3 days and a ton of people getting zero, at least Anthrocon when they do it they go and make sure everyone gets at least one day

Yeah, FWA said they were aiming for something like AC with a weighted lotto system, but I think way way way too many people applied. They really just need to commit to a pure Artist Alley or do a hybrid Artist Alley/ Artist Marketplace like MFF.

Artist Marketplace for people who are selling lots of small merch and things. That's were I'm at currently - I don't have enough to really be worth a slot in a Dealer's Den, but I can make real good use of a small area to sell prints and stickers while working on commissions.

I do like having a space for small artists to pop up for a day for fun, but that's not what I'm looking for .

I liked the way megaplex does it, they split the days into two shifts a morning and an evening one and have the alley go from like 10am to 7pm so they have more capacity for everyone

I have heard FWA's Dealers Room was able to accept less than 10% of applicants, so I'm not surprised their AA was also competitive. But indeed.. the way to do that sort of system is try to make sure everyone possible has one day before anyone gets three.

What is a dealer's room and how does it differ from AA?

It's a space for people to set up large displays, sell large merch like posters, Dakis, Wall scrolls, etc
Fursuit makers, leather goods really need a lot of space.
Typically it's for sellers who can do a lot of sales.

AA - Artist Alley. A strict definition would be it's a space for an artist to actively be working on their art and commissions for con goers. (Sketchbook typically, but I've seen watercolor artists and painters). In my experience, a lot of people use it to sell small merch, like stickers, pins. Prints are rarer, but that's most of my sales when I'm at a table.

Indeed! In addition, in furry conventions AAs tend to be low to no-cost, often have daily setup and breakdowns, space may be for only one or two days (Instead of all three for a DR/DD), and square footage is small. There may be restrictions on merchandise, signage, and the like. It's often a space for beginning artists and craftspeople, or those who are new to the furry convention scene.

FWA needs a MUCH bigger alley.
