I didn't see the original until last year. It's a great film.

I don't doubt it. I've pretty much only heard good things about it.

It’s a good one. Also interesting from a development standpoint. It got hit with a couple cases of censorship, most of it due to bad timing of world events. Tons of media experienced that, too.

Censorship due to world events is the most annoying form of censorship. Especially since much of it doesn't hold up. Meaning that the reason for why something was censored 20 years ago may no longer be cause for censorship today, since it may no longer be a sensitive issue. Yet we're forever stuck with the consequences.

To this day, I still hate how there's a huge story gap in Pokemon Black/White anime because of the cancellation of the Team Rocket vs. Team Plasma episodes. Yes, that ultimately doesn't change a whole lot in the grand scheme of the show. But it's especially obnoxious when rewatching the show, and knowing that like a dozen+ episodes of plot buildup is for absolutely nothing because the pay-off doesn't exist.

Well, tragedies have a tendency of doing that.for LILO and Stitch, the climax had to be heavily altered due to the 9/11 attacks, and I believe the Pokemon alterations was in response to a tsunami that devastated Japan at the time of production.

Or, at the very least, will make it redundant. I've only seen a couple of the remakes, and that's how I felt about Aladdin. In its own right, it wasn't a bad movie. But by the end, it just left me asking, "Why does this exist?" Because it didn't really bring anything new to the table to make it feel like it matters, when you can just watch the original instead and basically get the same experience.

As opposed to the other one I saw, which was Beauty and the Beast. Whether you think it's better or worse, that one actually felt like it had value because it had plot points that gave the movie purpose to exist alongside the other. Such as addressing a plot hole or two that I've seen people discuss from the original, to make the story as a whole feel a bit more believable within its setting. It introduced elements that gave it a legitimate reason to exist, as opposed to Aladdin that just felt pointless.

really? i never noticed that. i seen the movie but what were the plot holes that were addressed (im assuming Belle's mother)

It's been a long time, so I could certainly be forgetting some things. But the main one I remember was the whole amnesia thing, so that none of the townspeople knew about the gigantic mansion just outside their back door. Which, while one might say isn't necessarily a plot whole, I felt made a lot more sense than absolutely nobody seemingly knowing that this place existed prior to the whole Beast incident.

Was it a detail that ever needed to be addressed? Not at all. But I liked how that little bit of extra lore made the world feel that little bit more fleshed out and believable. Because even if none of the townspeople ever wandered very far from town, you'd think some of them would've heard of that place at some point. Either just because of how extravagant it was, or even just things like merchants passing through who knew about it.

Either way, my point is that it added an element to the story that made the remake feel like it mattered. Something that allowed it to stand out from the original in some sort of significant way. Justifying its existence, regardless of whether or not it was actually better.
