Might as well do this again, here's a quick review of WWE Backlash. Spoilers if you havent watched it.
LA Knight vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Damien Priest vs. Jacob Fatu was an absolute banger. Match of the night for me. Just four big dudes getting in there and slapping man meat. it was really well balanced with all four men given time to shine while furthering the McIntyre/Priest feud. While I knew Jeff Cobb coming into the fed was an inevitability, I'm surprised that he's been grouped with Solo. With G.O.D. both out, I guess they had to put him somewhere. Not sure what LA Knight does from here though, since Jacob and Solo seem to have been pushed in a crash course.
Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria was a lot of fun, two Irish lasses whupping the shit out of each other. I honestly expected Becky to win the IC belt from Lyra though, but this help put credibility to Lyra's name. I can't help but think that the match ended prematurely even though it was in third gear. I wonder if Lyra actually did get a broken nose and an audible was called.
Penta vs. Dominik Mysterio was full of good lucha things, but I'm real tired of the Judgement Day, lol. I had kind of hoped that Dom getting the IC belt at Wrestlemania would have finally pushed him or Finn out of the group. (I had also hoped that JD McDunnagh would also have split from the group after coming back from that brutal injury given how much he was being put over after it happened, but...)
Pat MacAfee vs. Gunther was surprisingly entertaining??? Pat did a lot of really cool shit for a non-wrestler, and Cole getting involved in the match was pretty dope. Shoutout to Wade Barrett for holding down the commentator's desk by himself. The cool thing about the match is that, while Gunther never felt like he was in trouble of losing, Pat was still able to get some credible offense in. I was actually blown away by Pat doing a moonsault.
Randy Orton vs. John Cena was...like...well, it sure was a match. WWE keeps putting over the fact that they've wrestled over twenty times while neglecting to say they've only had one actually good match. This was certainly not the dirt worst of their matches, but the most I'll give it is that it was competent. Time to move John onto his next feud.
Overall Backlash was a pretty good but safe B show PLE. The Fatal Four Way for the US title is worth watching, but otherwise it's a skippable affair.
