If you want a nice alternative. You could try Medibang. It’s free and really nice. You can also rearrange the UI as well. I used that that at first before I got photoshop.

Apparently Adobe is forcing everyone's subscription up to it's "AI" rate, which, of course, also forces more AI bulls*** onto the user as well. I personally wouldn't give Adobe the time of day for their myriad of terrible practices. I'd consider an alternative or sailing the high seas (if you catch my drift, matey).

Personally? I use Paint Tool Sai 2. While it's not as robust as Photoshop's suite, it's still pretty solid and it's, like $50 bucks.

Of course, there's tons of alternatives out there that don't do the garbage subscription model (or force feed genAI crap down your throat), so I'd honestly go with one of those. You'll also not have to keep paying over and over, which will have alleviate some pressure on you financially.

Due to those aforementioned financial woes, there is one other program I've heard is very solid and that's Krita. I've heard it's a very solid program and (what might be most interesting to you) is that it's a "pay what you want/can" system. You can download it for free (it's even on Steam) and you can give them money later on if/when you're able. Might be worth looking into.

Yeah I definitely don't wanna support Adobe's new AI crap, so I'd very much prefer to unsub now that I can. I tried to cancel my sub last year, but was welcomed to pay a whopping unsubscription price so I dropped it. Wouldn't wanna miss my chance now. I use Clip Studio to draw, but PS to do last edits and effects, add texts, cropping, resizing etc.

If you want a free option, try Krita! I use it all the time and in my opinion it's better than photoshop.

You can also try trial version of Clip Studio Paint for 30 days, but the full version costs 60$ or so.

I have had the full version of Clip Studio for 10 years, and it is amazing. I use it every time for drawing. Still it lacks some quality-of-life features that Photoshop has, and thus I usually do last edits to my works in Photoshop.

Krita is mainly a painting tool, but it has a lot of photo editing features (and even tools for animation) so maybe it could fit you. The interface is different than in PS so you might have issues finding some tools you need, but give it a try!

Also check Affinity Photo, it's really good photo editing program, but not free.

Edit Note: You can buy Clip Studio Paint forever tho with 60 dollars but they tend to upgrade their product over time. The upgrades most of the time are not worth it so if you're fine with not getting updates this program will work just fine.

They keep regularly updating it, making ground breaking new tech to improve your art! They also have multiple payment tiers to choose from.
