You're not entitled to free art regardless of cash
4 months ago
Okay when someone asks an artist such as a commissioner for free art of even demands it that commissioner tends to get really offended. You know based on the fact they are being proposed to have a picture done for someone for free without compensation. They'll go on about how art takes time and money and how they should be compensated for it.
While that's understandable and all the main problem is really being DEMANDED to draw something for someone even for cash. Like some commissioners have limits to what they'll draw even if you pay them. Some artist don't even do art for money at all, the just draw personal art. No requests, no trades, commissions, no YCH (your character here) no pay per view, just personal pieces. As in art they draw solely for themselves.
These people definitely would not want to be demanded to draw something for someone even if paid to do so.
Okay so what's my point for all this? Well I see all this focus on how bad it is to ask for free art or goodness forbid demand it based on the lack of compensation rather than the principle of acting like you're entitled to a picture. Like people are all like "How dare they demand my services for free when art takes all this investment rah rah rah!". Like the focus is all cash when it should be that nobody has the right to just demand anything from people.
Yes compensation is a big thing but overall it's the principle of demanding art entirely that's wrong.
Maybe this is a bit a semantical nitpick on how people approach this topic. Like a lot people know it's bad to demand a picture period. I just felt like there was too much focus on cash rather than principle.
So yeah don't demand things like art from people period.
