Taking commissions again, as my situation has not improved. I've also developed a pinched nerve in my back that's excruciating when it flares up. I'm taking Physical Therapy 3 times a week to help reduce the flare-ups. Aging is not for the weak...

The IVs and blood draws still freak me seriously. When I had to have a MRI before hand surgery, the nurse literally stabbed me eight times trying to get a vein in both arms. At that point I was utterly freaking out. Took an ER nurse just one try to score a vein. My heart rate was through the roof when they put the cuff on me because of it.
Thing is, I can see blood with no problems, bleeding from me, no problem, puddles on the floor, no problem, running off me, no problem. But for some damn reason I see it going into the collection tube , Problem!
I think my phobia of needles comes from when I was a kid in the 60s (YOU remember those years!!) and the public schools did the various inoculations. I can't remember what one was for, but I will NEVER FORGET IT!! I literally had a 'Nurse Ratchett' from One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest, horn rimed glasses ...CIGARETTE DANGLING OFF HER LIPS! As she stabbed me in my left arm with a shot, injected in whatever it was and withdrew the syringe. WITHOUT THE NEEDLE!!!
She looked shocked and said roughly "Whoops!" I'm freaking and losing it. She tries to push the skin and flesh down on my arm to expose the needle....fails.
I'm balling my eyes out at this stage, this sets off other kids. Then the school janitor shows up with needle nosed pliers. They again, push down skin, exposing the back of the needle, and the janitor grabs the back of the needle and yanks it out. I'm in hysterics at this point and get taken to the nurses office to be bandaged up.
So yeah, I was seriously traumatised , took a VERY cleaver nurse while I was getting a flu shot decades later to A: Have me wiggle my fingers while getting the shot in that arm and another time had approached my arm as she's about to inject me, only to suddenly pull away announcing it was done....when she didn't stick me!! A nurse came in from the other side and stuck me in the other arm....I literally didn't feel it!
Which is why I now ask when getting blood draws "I want your best vampire, I'm a huge needle pussy!!" And they usually are successful , but I still cover my eyes with my hat to not witness the vial being filled.
