Honestly for the worst
Sure you can use tags but not every artist is gonna tag their art with the character's gender. Before they could still keep it as the default sure, but now artists have to go out of their way to tag it themselves instead of using a built in feature so many might not bother or even think about it.

It was an entirely optional qol feature that made it easier to indicate a character's gender, especially if the character in question was ambiguous in appearance or had features usually attributed to the opposite sex, but that being removed just makes things cloudier and puts full responsibility on the uploader

True. Though I think it should nudge artists to be accurate with their tags.
