How many of you guys remember Disney's Aladdin? I haven't watched that movie in a while and I was thinking about it recently. I'm a little embarrassed to say this in today's political climate, but it's one of my favorite movies of all time, and I love it so much that unlike a lot of people these days, including that one weird guy on YouTube who likes to talk about communism in his other videos, I wouldn't call it "racist". Just controversial because it featured a bit of dated, stereotypical humor that might have offended or upset some people back in the day. Hence, why they changed that song lyric in the beginning. But even in spite of its controversies, I'm glad that it introduced a whole new generation of people to South Asian and Middle Eastern culture. I even enjoyed the TV show and one of the direct-to-video sequels and I remember seeing a friend playing the video game on his Sega at one point in the 90s. I would love to see the Broadway musical one day if I ever had the chance to. And yes, I despised the live-action remake when it came out, even though I know it tried to right a few wrongs of the original movie.
