Xenospermia Retcons
This is very random but I have spent the past few days working on Xenospermia lore. The previous journal was actually part of it!
There were a lot of concepts which were not fully integrated but I now have a map of where everything is conceptually relative to another.
I now also have an actual timeline of Chel’s history, whereas before I was simply thinking she was in a superposition of a few different origins.
I’m also going to use a bunch of game specific terms or w/e since this journal is really only relevant to like 5 people
Specifically, Chel was an infomorph whose specific interest was in simulations of real-world environments and their exploration. Infomorphs are virtual beings (they are 1 for 1 in complexity with biological equivalents) and comprised 99.999% of Shaper (the pre-fall utopia) society. She has spent the subjective equivalent of decades in 1:1 recreations of historical alien environments. However, despite a desire to incorporate herself into the real world to try it For Real, there were exenuating facotrs.
Restrictions on incorporation meant that there was a rigid bureaucracy in the way of the pursuit. There were considerations like, whether the prospective infomorph were to go AWOL or act irresponsibly IRL, which could put the entire civilization in danger. There were also practical considerations, like the fact that infomorphs cause a fraction of resources that incorporated people do (no need for physical space, for starters.)
More importantly, social pressure. In the Shaper context, going into meatspace was seen in the same lens as being hikkomori in our context. It was something for fringe LARP groups and weird counter-culture types. In the context of exploration, it was seen as inefficient when probes could do the work, disgusting (as the real world still had weather, disease, etc.), and a dead end. You could only really climb the social ladder on the grid.
Anyway she’s sent to an alien planet as her dream comes true but then—I’ll save the PLOT TWISTS for later.
The actual retcon would just be to Chel’s scan lore. Previously if she scans herself, she calls herself Andyne, but this is now ahistorical. She will just call herself a Shaper.
Also, T4R4 will have a minor retcon. Her current scan says she’s Dazain, but that’s ahistorical, she’s now Shaper and instead of fighting in the Void War or whatever the old lore was, it is now the earlier Shaper-Skivari Incident. Aka the nuclear bomb vs the coughing baby.
Everything will be in a wiki ingame and as you encounter lore, they propagate into the wiki. If you ever went under the pod stuff where you can read the Bodies and IVES lore, it’d be just like that.
