On Writing Books for Children
As an avid fan of media like Bluey, Thomas and Friends (the GOOD seasons), and the idea of high quality children's media in general, I am FED UP with the sheer quantity of "it's for kids so it doesn't need to be smart" media that's presented as entertainment for children. I'm slowly becoming a writer, and I want to eventually pursue writing books for children, and I am determined to write stories which respect their intelligence. In particular, I want to write stories which are grounded in reality, deal with real-life problems and challenges, and so on.
I know for a fact children are more intelligent than most people give them credit for, and that the existing education systems- where I live, at least- are detrimental to their creativity, intelligence, and imagination. I have first-hand experience of this, because I went through that education system, and looking back on my past, I can see how my imagination and ideas were whittled down to nearly nothing. I genuinely believe one of the few things which kept my imagination active were the realistic, intelligently written stories I had as a kid, and I want to provide stories of my own to others, so they can have the same chances as I did to keep my imaginative mind alive.
Not sure where or when I'll start, but I plan to put some snippets of my stories here. I'll see what comes of it all.

I'm so on board with childrens' shows that are satisfying for adults to watch, too. Whether you do it for the surface reason that the parents are probably having to watch it too with the kids, so it might as well not bore them to tears, or for the deeper reason that the kids can go as deep as they want, learning from a more nuanced show, I say go for it!
Also, Bluey is my happy place, and I say that even as a childfree woman!
