for context and explanation:
Please take a minute to research "Stop Killing Games"
What is Stop Killing Games movement?
The "Stop Killing Games" initiative is dedicated to ending the practice of publishers "destroying" videogames that they have sold to customers
Many modern videogames require users to connect to the internet in order to play, and when support for such videogames ends, for example, due to excessively costly server maintenance, the functionality of these videogames is often deprecated to an extent that many users consider that the games are no longer "playable"
Real (most recent controversy) Example:
The campaign was sparked by Ubisoft's shutdown of "The Crew" racing game, which shut down servers for 2014 online racing game
The Crew, rendering the game unplayable for its 12 million registered players
[What the Initiative Seeks]
The initiative "seeks to prevent the remote disabling of videogames by the publishers, before providing reasonable means to continue functioning of said videogames without the involvement from the side of the publisher"
here's a condensed videos of Charlie "the internet Jesus" and Louis Rossman talking about it..
