What a great way to start my Holiday, Walt. Forgive me but to me, Hendrix's version of the Star-spangled banner is about as irritating as the Rosie O' Donnel version where she screamed out the lyrics thinking she was being "Funny." I know... I know. Some see it as an "Anthem" to the "Three Joints before for lunch" bunch, but I've always felt insulted hearing it.

On the other hand, I have always had respects for e.e. Cummings and his poetry. This is the first time I had ever heard his voice, and the words he chose, and how he fashioned them are timely and powerful. Both examples express feelings of a time not that long ago and not only bring up a sense of nostalgia to me but are also timeless.

That was Roseanne Barr, not Rosie O'Donnell.

What I find insulting are "singers" who'll caterwaul and ululate and slur the anthem. Sure, the tune's an English drinking show, but do these idiots have to sing it like they're high?

I do not celebrate this day.

Heh. I'm about a mile from a major fireworks venue, and of course my neighbors will be setting the buggers off. We've had the obligatory warnings against "celebratory gunfire."
