I cant draw due to RSI and I'm very annoyed
3 months ago
I got wrist and elbow tendinitis, not from drawing, but from the way I hold my mouse while at my desk. Its been a problem on-and-off for three years, but recently it hasn't been able to heal back to full function in several months, and I'm worried its just going to be a constant dull ache from now on. I haven't been able to draw much in the meantime, worried about injuring myself more. Just thought I'd say here, because I made this account to post my art and I haven't even been able to make anything! I've developed the writing and narrative of my characters in the meanwhile, but not being able to develop it through art like I usually do is discouraging.
I've even switched to learning how to draw and write with my non-dominant hand, but that arm starts hurting too.
Thinking I might learn to draw in an art style that doesn't require many precise hand-drawn strokes, maybe something geometric, or sharp on colors. I wonder if you could quantify the physical strain from different art styles, and which have the least potential for pain? Which have the most? I have a spreadsheet and everything.
Overall though, my arms are feeling much better than they were only a month ago, I got back into reading (been making my way through math and science fiction), and I can now draw and write with any hand I want, which is fun. Hopefully I can draw again soon, and be able to draw without pain from then on, I think I've learned how to take better care of myself now.
