Jurassic World: rebirth review
So I got the chance to see the new jurassic world movie and here are thoughts on it. Right off the bat I can say while this movie is not the best jurassic movie, it is still leagues better then dominion and even fallen kingdom. The story is more simple and straight forward, but in this case I think that works in the movie’s favor as too not over complicate things. I thought all the action scenes with the dinosaurs were really well done. I thought the pacing of the movie was a lot better because at least you are given a chance to breath and process every action scene before it moves on to the next.
I thought all the characters were good to decent, there were no characters that a really hated or thought were annoying or insufferable. I actually thought the characters of the family were just okay. but easily the best part of this movie were the visuals, I thought this was the best shot jurassic movie since the lost world, the cinematography in it was beautifully done. The dinosaurs are probably the best they have ever looked since jurassic park 3, while the CG of the dinosaurs can look a bit iffy at times, but over all I think it looks fine. At first I was not a big fan of the idea of the mutant hybrids, but once I saw them in the movie I liked them better as it added a new interesting element to this jurassic movie.
Now even though I liked the movie overall, I still have my complaints with it. I thought the beginning part of the plot to get things going in the movie was kind of dumb. The way that certain things happen in the prologue scenes with the D-rex was kind of really dumb too. (snickers candy wrapper) I was a bit disappointed that my second favorite dinosaurs, the raptors, got shafted in favor of the mutant ones. I mean come on, why give the raptors such a cool design and show them a lot in the promotion material only for them to barely show up in the movie? I feel like there were deleted scenes of the raptors somewhere. I felt the little girl befriending the little cute dinosaur was a bit unnecessary, but I get why that part is in there, just to sell the toys. I felt the scenes where they are in the lab could have been longer and the how and why Ingen was creating hybrid mutants on this island could have been explained more.
Lastly, I felt the D-rex mutant was really underutilized in this movie, it should have been in this movie a lot more. For the marketing to promote this thing as the next big bad monster in this movie, they sure don’t do a hell of a lot with it. I would of liked to see more of the D-rex actually breaking out of containment that caused the incident for the island to be abandoned. And call me crazy, but I’m actually disappointed we didn’t get a fight scene between the T.rex and the D-rex because that is kind of the trope with these movies now. So despite my complaints, I still think there is enough good things in this movie to not call it a disastrously bad movie, it was just an okay enjoyable movie. I rate it 8/10.
