To Dream... (Poem)
I rest on my bed,
My eyes trembling
And my heart beating.
It is calm.
I look up at the ceiling
And wonder:
Where is the sandman
Of the night?
He has not graced my
Dwelling with his presence tonight.
In fact, he has avoided
The territory for days.
To sleep is to dream.
And I cannot sleep
For I do not dream.
I dream blackness.
Blackness for hours.
Nothing to think back on
Upon waking.
Why sleep
When there's no meaning?
Nothing to look forward to.
Nothing to see.
I am simply a blind man
Walking in my imagination.
Nothing but blackness
Surrounding me.
So why sleep?
I will not.
My body fights me,
But I shall win.
Only then,
When fighting my body,
Will I get what I hope for...
A dream.
My eyes trembling
And my heart beating.
It is calm.
I look up at the ceiling
And wonder:
Where is the sandman
Of the night?
He has not graced my
Dwelling with his presence tonight.
In fact, he has avoided
The territory for days.
To sleep is to dream.
And I cannot sleep
For I do not dream.
I dream blackness.
Blackness for hours.
Nothing to think back on
Upon waking.
Why sleep
When there's no meaning?
Nothing to look forward to.
Nothing to see.
I am simply a blind man
Walking in my imagination.
Nothing but blackness
Surrounding me.
So why sleep?
I will not.
My body fights me,
But I shall win.
Only then,
When fighting my body,
Will I get what I hope for...
A dream.
