Ideas for Ultraman fanart?
Hmmm I'm very willing to make more Ultraman fanart - not exactly the silver being we all love, but the hosts and other characters in furry form. As it happens with Star Trek, I have lots of ideas, but I can't decide and I think input from my dear Pearlets will be welcome! Current ideas:
- Hideki Go ♥️, currently sketching. Send me your favorite photos of him! Both the classic stylish model from Return of Ultraman (1971) or the very charming older man from Ultraman Mebius (2006)/The Super 8 Ultra Brothers movie (2008)
- Go and Kishida are so nice together later in the series, but I have NO IDEA of Kishida's sona, help~~~
- I need to draw more of the 1966 crew. Ide first of course (I love him!) but anyway all of them. Fun, cute or cool ideas for scenes and situations are welcome!
- Currently starting Ultraman Mebius and enjoying it. Comment "amigo" or "gracias" if you want fanart of George. I'm willing to draw Mirai or other characters too;
- I have some ideas for Dan Moroboshi, both from the first episode of Ultraseven, or the alternate version of The Super 8 Ultra Brothers movie (2008) (the restaurant! I'm screaming!!!)
- Also watching Ultraman Omega (2025). So far, loving it!
Comment if you like any of these ideas, or even if you have others :D

FA+

but it is sad when no one comes to respond to all those good ideas,
even if Ultraman is a pretty niche series outside of Brazil and Japan.
So I'll use this journal to try and figure out the who is who as far as lead and notable characters go in the different series.
Ultraman (1966)
Shin Hayata (Pear species: otter)
Mitsuhiro Ide (Pear species: sika deer)
Ultraseven (1967)
Dan Moroboshi
Return of Ultraman (1971)
Hideki Go
Fumio Kishida
Ultraman Ace (1972)
Seiji Hokuto
Yuko Minami
Ultraman Taro (1973)
Kotaro Higashi
Ultraman Leo (1974)
Gen Ootori
Ultraman 80 (1980)
Takeshi Yamato
....And okay, at this point I realize that I've bitten off more than I can chew,
as the Ultra series history is ENORMOUS! Those shows above constitute the Classic era of Ultraman,
then there is the Revival era, running from 1996 to 2007 (Tiga, Dyna, Gaia, Neos, Cosmos, Nexus, Max, Mebius, Ultraseven X),
followed by the New Generation era, running from 2013 to these days
(Ginga, Ginga S, Ultraman X, Orb, The Origin Saga, Geed, R/B, Taiga, Z. Trigger, Decker, Blazar, Arc, Omega),a
and then there are also the side mini-series, animated series, movies... This franchise makes Star Trek feel like a single season!
You are absolutely a one rat library for daring to follow this gargantuan collection of tokusatsu stories.
Alright, here's one more that you mentioned:
Ultraman Mebius (2006)
Mirai Hibino
George
TakeiIkarugaAnd yeah, there are LOTS of series! Although, for me *pearsonally* the most important are Ultraman, Ultraseven and Return of Ultraman, as these are the classics which aired on Brazil during 70s/80s. I didn't watch any of them back then (it was a bit before I was born/or when I was a toddler), but they left a cultural impact, and they emerge sometimes when I'm talking with people of older generations (like the Croatian Candy Lady. Yeah, she enjoyed Ultraman and Ultraseven as a kid. What a crossover!)
So, I'm not sure even how can I access all these series. So I'm starting by these big three, may try Ace eventually, watched two movies (the 2008 one is SPLENDID) as suggested by a friend, plus same friend is starting Omega so here we are, started Mebius because I want to see that old charming Hideki Go on ep. 45, and so on, and so on... And there are other things I want to watch - I really want to give Kamen Rider Black a rewatch, as this I watched as a little Pear, and the writer wrote some fine Ultraman episodes so. I'm INTERESTED. As I kid I also watched Jiraya, Changemen, Jaspion - I rewatched recently an episode featuring Masanari Nihei. He was always a JOY onscreen!
And yeah, there is that too... the same way I love to see Alexander Siddig and Leonard Nimoy elsewhere, I'm very interested in watch as much of Masanari Nihei and Jiro Dan as possible. Afaik they didn't work together, and it's a shame - recently I learned that actually Jiro Dan was big in comedy. Imagine the dream duo!
A vast universe, indeed!
I feel like I've gotten a better understanding of where your past and present focus is
where all those series are concerned. I could never imagine myself climbing up that massive tree,
even back when I could still process new movies and series! Your ability to navigate all this is stunning!
And yeah, that overlap of interests with the Cool Candy Lady is serendipitous!
Another cool crossover? I just noticed that the Kamen Rider hero has those insectoid antennae, and I thought,
"Huh, a bug superhero – like Chespirito's El Chapulin Colorado!"
The series you mentioned have very bombastic international names:
Blitz Squadron Changeman
Olympic Ninja Jiraiya
MegaBeast Investigator Juspion
Looking up the intros to those series, I once again got a lot of Brazilian language versions,
further cementing your land as the second tokusatsu capital of the world.
Those actors carry a lot of the charm the series is known for with them,
it is nice to follow their careers in search of other good shows.
Masanari Nihei was brilliant in the original show, such a blend of humor and earnest acting!
And there are so, so many handsome young actors in various installments of Ultraman,
one could imagine that the target audience were young ladies and gay lads, not kids.
And yeah there are the big international names and the short versions my pup-mind stored back then LOL. I still think "Juspion" and "Kamen Rider Black" sound kinda weird :D (as for us it's "Jaspion" and "Black Kamen Rider" :D)
Unfortunately I don't know much about tokusatsu and LatAm (I may talk with a specialist for it), but there are a number of language options on Tsuburaya videos, may check langugaes later.
And yeah some actors are way too handsome, and for older series I do love also civilian wardrobes and hairstyles. Maybe because it is a family show and much like Star Trek there were housewives watching? Who knows.
I feel silly for being a few decades late to have this thought, but I'm proud for having reinvented
this very Brazilian concept!
There may be other options, but it's the titles that are in Brazilian,
so it's your brasileiras and brasileiros who are the keepers of those shows' memories,
at least on YouTube!
And a very convincing hypothesis about the Star Trek housewives connection!
I suppose the time scheduling and the market research departments
are often to blame for the casting and aesthetic choices
in the TV programming from that era,
and to this day, really.
No complaints, though! It is cool to see handsome and cool actors in unlikely roles!
Leonard Nimoy was in so many films! He even voiced the villain in the 1986 Transformers animated film!
And John de Lancie was in Friendship is Magic!
Brazilians have this habit of totally crowing some sites, like Orkut for instance. Some even ventured to VK or Koo.
I've seem some tokusatsu (especially Ultraman) around in YouTube in Vietnamese too... shout out to our friends from Southeast Asia!
The more I watch Ultraman, the less I know about the target audience. Even Omega. There are a LOT of toys announcements in the videos, but I would totally buy some merch and, even more, go to a live action show if possible...
And it is a JOY to see Leonard Nimoy. Always. And singing too! I love the Tim Russ songs too!
And yeah Discord is splendid. Completely Q-coded, down to the snap!
and I'm happy to see you come back here again!
Really made my day to see your comments
in my Inbox! And it's wonderful that
I can talk on FA again after my long hiatus, too.
Didn't know Tuvok was a musician! Also, very fittingly, an astronomer!
