Warning: This episode is a real tear-jerker.
In an unusual move, the whole episode of Democracy Now! today is dedicated to Ms. Rachel, who is probably well known to anyone who has little kids. She has over 16 million subscribers on YouTube, and over ten BILLION views.
She has a video with Rahaf, a three year old Palestinian girl whose legs were blown off in an Israeli airstrike but managed, with the help of the Palestinian Children's Relief fund, to be able to come to the US for treatment and to get prosthetic legs fitted. That video of her and Rahaf has been liked over a million times on Instagram.
Gaza has the largest number of child amputees of any war in history.
Coincidentally, I first heard of her on an episode of the Bad Hasbara podcast, which I only recently discovered:
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/11190789/
She was mentioned there because of the way that she's been accused of antisemitism for talking about and advocating for the children of Gaza on her show and on social media by Zionists. Apparently they find her threatening.
Juan Gonzalez mentions a social media post of hers which quoted James Baldwin “The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality.”

I'd also like to bring this headline to everybody's attention:

More disgusting fascistic shit from Trump.

And no, they don't care.
she's amazing for using her platform to call for the cessation of horrors
that are inflicted on the innocents in Gaza and everywhere.
No detailed historical analysis or political insights,
just a cry for a display of humanity,
a rebuke of the way the adults
are betraying and abusing
children while calling it
moral and just.
This is a sorely needed message, and she's the one
who can send the greatest waves across the sea of public opinion.
That human rights violations registry getting axed
is abhorrent on so many levels. It dismisses the colossal work
done by the watchdog and advocacy NGO's across the world, usually at great personal risk,
it's removing the pathways for refugees to escape those hazardous conditions,
and it's dragging the U.S. already tarnished record with international ethics
through the foulest mud, making a statement that the U.S. is no longer
aspiring to be a place where liberty and justice can thrive,
but just a big bully of a country whose interests
start and end at its coffers and stockpiles of guns.
Hoping that the momentum of the U.S. Americans
fighting to reassert those values will be enough
not only to get rid of Trump and his hateful lackeys,
but push the country back on the course for improving the lives of people
and repairing the harm it's done. There is no longer a place
for the proud conquerors, capitalists and colonizers at this point in history.
They've had their time.
It's hard to get Americans off their fat, complacent asses and into the streets, but I think that ever more of them are seeing how dangerous he is, and none of the things he's doing are exactly good PR.
to change the world for the better, because it takes 110% of their strength
just to get from paycheck to paycheck, especially if they have a family
to support. Most people who make up society can only do just that –
live, and make sure the trains are running and the stores are stocked.
College education is a luxury, and getting deep into the politics
is an indulgent hobby. Heroes are venerated for how rare they are.
But given that the only thing that can whip the U.S. into shape is the U.S.,
every time I see your neighbors manage to come together and do the right thing,
it gives me an immense swell of hope.
And you're right, it's hard to discredit a universally beloved child educator
who is begging to stop killing children, no matter where they're from.
And yeah, most people are just trying to survive, and the capitalists like it that way.
And about 60% of Americans are one paycheck (Assuming they're even getting paychecks) away from being houseless, through no fault of their own.
High GDP only matters to those who own stock and factories.
Oh, and there was Roger Waters playing in the studio! The man's gone all in on the good fight!
And Drumpf would still blame them if they ended up homeless. He and his cronies are completely out of touch with the average American.
It is assumed that if someone has two arms, two legs and two eyes,
they're fit to work and bear the load of all societal pressures,
and they're a lazy bum who deserves to live in cardboard box
if they can't take care of themselves.
If only that was an innovation brewed up by Trump's regime!
The way our society is structured, there is the perpetual carrot of more financial security,
and the relentless stick of poverty driving people to build up their lives and climb higher and higher,
and when they bump into those who have fallen by the wayside of the rat race,
the deeply ingrained internalization of this inhuman grinding system
causes them to treat the less fortunate with contempt
and a sense of righteousness, because they are reminded
of how far behind is that failure state they've been running away from all their lives.
It is a rare and beautiful thing when the well-off people stop
and turn their considerable capabilities and resources
to help the ones left behind. The norm is to strive up
and punch down, unfortunately, and it will remain
this way until we return ethics into politics,
now scrubbed clean of the traditional bigotries and superstition.
There need to be temples to the Constitution and its underpinning values of liberty and justice,
not as places of top-down indoctrination and preaching, but of education and community building,
and also art and beauty, philosophy and charity, peace and love.
but the good parts, yeah we all need to be constantly reminded
that those are not some sentimental whims of the leftie hippies,
but the cultural and legal foundation of the entire society.
It can be gingerly revised to better suit modernity,
but it can't be superseded by any
Randian/Reaganian neofeudalist fads.
It is absurd that there are well-defined
partisan flavors to the SCOTUS judges.
