honestly the part about the UK/EU is worrying me more than the US's side (I know they'll pass KOSA, and I know there'll be pushback especially considering the biggest problem with it is who will be enforcing it, AKA, FTC, AKA, Brendan Carr, AKA, super big transphobe, and we have more lawsuit methods to weaken/counter legislation here than in the EU/UK), because it's completely pointless and outta nowhere, and doesn't really have much to do with trump. In fact, trump and musk have whined about the UK safety act as censorship/free speech violations because they are trying to hook it to the UK policy that lets the government stop hate speech from getting out of control. (ie, how online incitement that targeted migrants last year led to people getting arrested because migrants almost got set on fire after some UK folk)

But what worries me more is like... In the UK there's literally a MAGA party called Reform (they're also how brexit happened) that's been building in popularity because Labour basically ditched the left and everyone except the shrinking center, and because they absorbed all of the tories' debt they basically suck ass, aren't bothering to fight it and outside of Ukraine stuff haven't done anything of significance except appeal to nobody, and this safety act being enacted was immediately followed by Reform openly pledging to repeal it if they get in full power. So great, the UK is literally inviting nazis to take the government there in 2029, which is extremely worrying to me. Not to mention people warning the UK safety people that this sloppy method of "enforcement" is literally more likely to push kids to the dark web which is MORE of a danger than just leaving it as is and maybe slapping on some more strict regulations on say, Twitter for being a nazi website, or actually important issues like protecting trans kids instead of letting everyone bully them.

The whole thing drives me bonkers. I've been for safety in general as one who was victimized in my youth (not by the internet), and i also feel one of the biggest things keeping kids unsafe isn't that they accidentally click on a link and end up in porn world, but the fact there aren't any god damn kid websites anymore or things they can do without algorithms or ads shoved in their face. Almost no kid-centric sites a kid can just go to and goof off with flash games for hours and hours or something like in my day, instead you have social media platforms trying to push kids to use them more and more, (youtube and spotify don't need Kids versions, I'm sorry) and them just going with online stuff like roblox or fortnite. And because these kids are being pushed to use these platforms way too early and because too many parents normalize that, the rest of us suffer.

I think this is the second attempt for KOSA in the US. It failed in 2023. So it is not new. But it failed due to first amendment concerns. So it can still fail again.

That's usually how things fail with the far-right: With them backing off when they realize it also has the potential to either help their adversaries or be used against them.

Same reason the Ten Commandments monuments always fail. Every time some theocratic piece of shit has tried to use state funds to tout his Christian nationalism, it has always ended the same way:

Step #1: Another group, usually the Satanic Temple or the Pastafarians, asks if they could also erect a monument for their own religion.
Step #2: The theocrats have a massive public tantrum over it.
Step #3: The courts remind them that "freedom of religion" means they need to either respect and acknowledge all religions or none.
Step #4: The theocrats pout and stomp off after selecting the "none" option.

Of course, just like with censorship, it never stops them from trying it again next year. They already know damn well that it would be illegal for them to apply two completely different sets of standards to the left and to themselves, but they never stop trying. And given that most of these are the same assholes who spent sixteen years screaming that Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden were all pedophiles in a Deep State ultra-wealthy pedophile club, only to feverishly defend Donald Trump as he outright refuses to release an alleged list of members of an ultra-wealthy pedophile club, I have no doubt that they will continue trying to enforce a complete double-standard for the rest of their lives. They are hypocrites, and they are proud of it.
