He was strongly anti-LGBTQ. He rallied against gay marriage, leading to amendments banning it in 30 states before the Supreme Court ruled them unconstitutional. He was also a proponent of 'conversion therapy' - which targeted then psychologically and physically tortured thousands of LGBTQ youth (in some cases to death). Although the stated goal was to 'turn them straight', it really only terrorized them and others into pretending. He was also against funding programs to prevent the spread of AIDS and blamed mass shootings on 'the LGBTQ movement'.
He counselled against interracial marriage, and was anti-choice, anti-feminist, and anti-equal rights; believing that only men should be able to earn money (which leads to women being trapped with abusive spouses) and that women should be relegated to the status of baby incubators and caregivers (which has led to underage women being forced to bear the babies of rapists). He viewed marriage as a transaction in which women exchange sex for protection.
As a founder of the purity culture movement, he lobbied against comprehensive sex education in favor of abstinence-only (which studies show is far less effective in preventing pregnancy and STIs).
He was also a proponent of corporal punishment - likely because he was beaten by his own mother with belts and shoes as punishment for insolence as a child. The effectiveness of corporal punishment is controversial, but in some cases it's used as a smokescreen for child abuse rather than as a correction for bad behavior. [Anecdotally, my father (while suffering a migraine) was smacked in the back of the head with a ruler for slouching in his seat. I defy anybody to tell me the moral lesson taught by this.]
There's more, but suffice it to say he likely would have disapproved of everyone here and used his influence to make our existence criminal. And while I celebrate no one's death, I will not mourn them. Neither will I feel relief, as there will always be someone to take his place.

Sad shame. May he rest in peace.

Also if it's hurt people I know and care about, I will find some solace in a figureheads demise.
No sympathy for such a hideous spirit.
