It's possible that if your average MAGAt is sitting and staring at his empty plate, one of his neurons might make a heroic effort to connect to the other one, and deliver the message "Hey....this isn't good!". Empty stomachs have been known to bring even the most deluded suckers back to reality.
So if there's an election for President in 2028, the chances are excellent that the new Prez will be a Democrat. Which brings up an obvious problem: What's the new Prez supposed to do with all the idiot toadies that Trump's installed throughout the federal bureaucracy? The spectacularly incompetent lick-spittles whose sole qualification for their jobs is slavish subservience to Trump?
If every election is followed by a Purge of the previous administrations' appointees, the political parties will become desperate not to lose. And didn't i say I don't want to be ruled by whichever pack of crooks cheats the hardest? That way Civil War lurks, and they suck.
And while we're on the subject, what are the Republicans gonna do with themselves after Trump croaks? (Mmmm, aahhhh, let me enjoy that thought for a moment....) A personality cult without a personality to worship is a pretty pointless exercise. Can anyone name a recent cult leader whose cult didn't evaporate after said leader kicked the bucket? Yes, I know about the Mormons. I said RECENT cults.
Yes, I'm sure the Repubs can trot out any number of sociopathic criminals who are even more greedy, cruel, stupid, cowardly and racist than Trump. But will they have popular appeal? Can the Repubs catch the Golden Turd twice? Nobody's gonna rally behind the ol' Couchfucker, that's for sure.

I'm not saying both sides are the same, but when you realize they're just targeted oppistion but still support and do what the rich billionares say to do then they're not going to be interested in clearing out the government and dredging the swamp.
We saw that when Biden didn't order all of Trump's court caes to be front and center as the first thing, or any of a dozen of things to try and start bomb proofing the republic.
The entire thing pisses me off. If I'd have been Biden right after the Supreme Court said that all offical acts of the president aren't illegal I'd have swept the board of all the traitors. Don't need to kill them but pull them from power and then put them in federal prison to sit until the judges have time to rule on it.
Biden needed to pull a "Dark Knight" and become the villain to be remembered as a hero. The MAGAts are never going to accept anything you do against them or Trump without a fight and at this point it's like trying to reason with a coiled rattler. The only answer they come up with is backing away.
I suspect when the government is threatened to shut down they'll roll over because that's what they're paid to do.

California is not a swing state, so I didn't have to hold my nose and vote for the genocigaire Harris, or for the fascist Drumpf, both of whom I oppose. Instead I chose to vote for Jill Stein in order to give third parties a boost.
And regarding Harris, she had what, a maximum of 103 days to mount a campaign? You expect the Dems to open up the field rather than use the little valuable time they had to mount a campaign?

Say what you want about Harries, but the way she was thrown in as a candidate was stupid. They should have used the four years when she was Vice President to build her up as a candidate, but it looks nothing was sone. Only when it was clear that Biden wouldn't win was she thrown into the ring.
Right now they could prepare several candidates. One that sounds like a voice of reason, one that opposes Trump on every front out of principle and so on.
I've seen the same thing happening here in Germany. 16 years we had Angela Merkel and the opposition didn't build up an opponent for her and when she stepped down no one, especially not the opposition, was ready which led the the recent kerfuffle.
And the only winner was the AfD *sigh*
The sad thing is that this was the second time this happened.
Remember that Trump has been able to do so much with Executive Orders because Obama normalized that sort of thing. (and Obama was able to do a lot because Bush was allowed to normalize things)

Trump will be campaigning for Vance in 2028.
Who will be in opposition? I don't think anyone knows. Frankly, the Dems haven't learned much since 2024 and double down on policies that the public by and large doesn't want. They have a ton of soulsearching and housecleaning to do, and as a registered Independent I don't think they have it in them to do that.
Vance also stands zero chance of winning in '28, provided we're still an actual democracy then.
