it certainly does help to upload somewhat frequently, interactions are also a big help to this, doing trades and gifts do help a lot if people repost your stuff
tagging is also very important, keywords, themes, et cetera will make your stuff more discoverable through the search engine which seems to lean strongly towards tags (that could explain the existence of meta tags and such)

Thanks for the tips! Looks like I should upload more artwork and interact with other people's artwork here more often.
