Enjoy your retirement, Dr. Demento!!

Yesterday, Dr. Demento, known for playing silly or odd songs, and who also gave Weird Al his start, aired his last show. He is retiring.
Little did I know that he had been doing retrospectives for several week, going over the decades he was on the air. On September 13th, he covered 2007-2015.
AND HE PLAYED MY PARODY CENSUS!!! https://www.furaffinity.net/view/3426972/
That he remembers it from 15 years ago makes me very, very happy.

The first time I heard his show was while I was at a summer camp back in 1976 or 1977. He'd just played, "Seven old ladies were locked in a lavat'ry", when I heard his voice come on for the first time. Needless to say, I was addicted to novelty, parody and fun demented music ever since.
Unfortunately, when I returned home, there were no stations local to me that aired his show. I was only 15 years old at the time, and tried everything to get a station so I could hear him again, but had no luck. I attended that same summer camp for four more years, and got to listen to his show for those three weeks out of each year.
In 1979, I decided to attach my stereo to the large TV antenna on our roof. It worked. I found a FM station in Ohio that was about 100 miles away that played the show. The reception at that distance was poor, but it was good enough to hear the show most weeks after that.
Dr. Demento and Weird Al are largely responsible for the life-long nerd-fluid that clogs my veins. Your own parody songs added plenty of strangely-colored geek-lubricant to the mix as well as well!!
Hopefully, sites like MadMusic.com, TheFuMP.com and FunHouseRadio.com, will keep our ear-tubes flowing with all the brain-warping dementia that started with Dr, Demento.
