How My Commissions Progress
So, before I start on how I do my commissions, please understand I am a person just like you. I have a life and try my best every day, but not all of them are great and sometimes it's harder than others. I have a bad habit of working too hard and injuring myself... I'm better at limiting it now and have those around me that remind me of it all the time. I have injured my drawing shoulder (yet again) this year but this time it was the only tendon I haven't hurt... So it's kind of been worse over all... Most things I do every day is some sort of struggle. But I won't let that deter me from drawing, I just take more breaks now and limit myself how often I draw.
I also work a full-time job on top of planning and running convention tables throughout the year. Hopefully soon I can quit this 7+ yr job to be a full-time artist, but I'm more practical than that because the world still exists around me and bills are still a thing in this economy (on top of the fact I'm trying to move to a new house with less roommates). I do try to take priority on my commissions over random projects, though after some time, I do try to come out with new art in general. I'm also still working on building my social media (I'm terrible at it...) some maybe older pieces or WIPs over the past few years I was silent for. Now that that's out of the way, here we go.
Commission Progress:
For those who are unaware, all my commission are done in sections, not in order. The reason being, say if I'm in the mood to sketch new poses and ideas (I like to call this Sketch Mode), I can get a lot done and draw for hours. But sometimes I lose that feeling and it takes a lot more energy and effort to sketch anything new, usually a few hrs just on one piece or I scrap a lot of the things I do sketch, aka wasted time. But if I have a few things started and have the basic concept down, and I'm not in sketch mode at that time, I can work on cleaning up line work. And those times where I really don't feel like drawing but know I need to work on something; I have pieces just ready to be colored and shaded. This way my commissions go a lot smoother. Previously I would work on one commission at a time, and sometimes I'm in a bad mood or the commissioner is being difficult (used to happen all the time when my commissions were cheap and people were inpatient) then I would lose all, if any motivation to draw on their piece but didn't want to start the next one due to feeling bad skipping people... So, I would just sit on doing nothing for a while, till I forced myself to draw, which never ended well, and I would miss out on doing my best for that commission... So, I changed the way I take and work on them for the better for everyone! Now it may take longer, but all my pieces I've worked on the past year or 2 all came out great and I'm proud of every single one of them! Not saying I'm proud of the rest of my commissions, but my mental and physical health has been a lot better now that I don't stress out as much on my commissions.
TLDR: My commissions work in sections with multiple pieces at a time, so all are finished faster, so sorry, not sorry this is also better for my mental health. But more positive energy is spent on every piece!
