O.o uhm... i dunno how to answer that really

well.. when i go to the store with my parents do some of the heavy lifting like getting galons of milk and some half and half(my mom's a coffee maniac thats why) and sometimes i do shop for myself.. O.o so i do help my parents out

Totally get why that surprised you 😮. I think it really depends. Some parents were raised with a strong sense of “I have to do it myself”, or they feel guilty asking for help because they don’t want to seem like a burden. It’s not always about trust, more like ego, pride or habit. Your family sounds super supportive and communicative, 💖💖💖 which is honestly beautiful. Helping out like that is a sign of trust and teamwork, not weird at all.

I dont know what the whole thing for that family was, but yeah not doing something as small as helping to get groceries just confuses me. I feel like its good to help out and even more so if times are harder. Like when my family got Covid, my parents got hit with it first and only my dad works. Then my sisters got it. This was a few months after I got into a car accident so I had to try not to think about my fear. Appointments, groceries, taking stuff to my parents in the hospital, I was running around trying to help out and somehow I was the last person to get it. I wonder how families that dont want help would do during something like that...

Here where I live (Brazil), it's very common to do the shopping for our parents. In fact, many of us have been doing it since we were kids, when our parents are busy, haha. In my family, my mom always gave us a debit card, and we always bought only what we needed. I don't know about other places, but in my city, it's the most common thing in the world; there are even Brazilian memes about it 😅

So you understand what its like TuT Yay! It just confuses me when families dont do that because its good to help out and doing stuff like that

I really believe it depends on the place and each family... In my city and in many places in Brazil, it's quite common. But it might be different in other countries. In any case, your family isn't strange, my friend❤️

I come from a house hold where you don't do anything unless you are told to and you can't have ideas of your own. I was Very locked down and fearful of my parents. No matter what I did, they never trusted me even though my mom still calls me her "perfect baby" (I'm 21 now). It sounds like you have parents that respect you like the adult you are. It's rare (in my opinion) for parents to trust and respect their kids no matter how old they are. My own mother still deals with disrespect and distrust from her mom. I live with my husband family now and I help out where I can with or without being asked to and I feel like I'm treated as a person. I'd say both situations are "normal", it just depends on everyone's upbringing and beliefs. Some parent-adult child relationships are just healthier then others I think.
I don't trust my parents and they never trusted me so we have always had a weak relationship.

TL DR: both are normal, some(my) parents suck and don't see their kids as people. Every one's parents are different based on how they were raised and how they raised you.

My parents still dont see my siblings and myself as an adults a good amount of the time. We have to walk on eggshells often to make sure we dont set them off. Even having a rbf can set them off, defending yourself (aka talking back to them) can result to mom threatening to break your mouth (she is latina and says that she would do that to any of her kids at any age because of you needing to respect your elders), etc. There are still many things that arent good but we all know that its good to help out, especially when our mom isnt the healthiest person out there. she has to take several different medications ans we see her struggling from blood pressure, migraines, being on and off diabetic, and more.

Im sorry that your family was like that to you. I am glad that you are in a happier place now *hugs tightly*

I hope you parents become kinder in the future to you but I get it. Almost all parents are weird like that I believe.

Honestly, I also find this unusual. Perhaps it's because of the mentality?
For me, stopping by the store on the way to my parents' house and asking if they need anything is normal. In fact, even my friends do this. For example, when someone from my group of friends comes over to visit someone, we usually text or call to ask if they need anything for the party. Or the party organizer might call guests who haven't arrived yet and ask them to stop by the store on their way. And that's common

Families are unique, all by themselves, you just haven't had the same people who do that around, ig. You already know what my family is like, tho, so I'm not the best judge for this stuff

I dunno what my family would think of me going to the store as a kid by myself.... But I believe this is depends on what values and morals each family is raised with. UwU
