Blame
AllyCat for this. She guilt-tripped me into doing another one.
1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Left my time-zone.
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
You can't keep what you don't have to begin with. No, I have not made any for 2010, given I'd never remember them, anyway.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope. I don't think it's going to happen any time soon, either.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not that I recall.
5. What countries did you visit?
None, but I did visit South Australia, marking the furthest I've been from home to date. Still haven't left mainland Australia yet. Not that I'm complaining.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
More information about various topics I can use in my own programs.
7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
None whatsoever.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Probably being able to say I now have a Bachelor of Computer Science degree (passed my last exams in 2008, graduated in early 2009).
9. What was your biggest failure?
Nothing stands out in my mind.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Eh, just the usual minor stuff.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Some hardware upgrades for my computer.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I can't think of anyone.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Nobody comes to mind.
14. Where did most of your money go?
New video card because the old one was too much of a slug, then replacing the DVD burner, which broke down. Finally, a new motherboard, processor, and memory. While I could probably have gotten away with the old processor for a while longer, the motherboard had to be replaced because the poor design of the old one meant I couldn't get at two of the SATA sockets after the graphics card upgrade. Running half the system off a USB hard drive is not much fun, I'll say that!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting a compiler working after an operating system upgrade.
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
What kind of a question is that?
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? No change
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter, although in my case, that's a good thing as it means I'm not as underweight as I was a year ago.
c) richer or poorer? Probably poorer after spending over $2000 on computer hardware.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Anything creative, especially work on my programming projects.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Ending up with writer's block (or the equivalent for art or programming).
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Spent it at home. Mum had some of her friends over. I was rather bored.
21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
I have better things to put my mind to.
22. How many one-night stands?
Whoever came up with this quiz is sick for asking this question.
23. What was your favourite internet TV program?
Not sure if I have one. I did look forward to downloading the Doctor Who specials and I did enjoy the new Stargate series. Yeah, yeah, I know they're broadcast, but I download my viewing material.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Not that I can think of.
25. What was the best book you read?
"100 Most Important Science Ideas". Worth a read.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
A few Ear Worms.
27. What did you want and get?
Some hardware upgrades for the computer.
28. What did you want and not get?
Better Internet access (because it's not available where I live).
29. What was your favourite film(s) of this year?
Nothing stands out, I have to admit.
30. What did you do on your birthday?
Don't remember.
31. What is one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
No idea.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Er, same as always?
33. What kept you sane?
Who says I'm sane?
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Not Applicable.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Can't think of anything.
36. Who did you miss?
Nobody.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
Of the few new people I did meet, I don't think any of them qualify as best in any category.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
There is no possible way to explain religion in a way which will make sense. Just thinking about that conversation I had with that nut from America gives me a headache.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Unable to comply. Insufficient data available.
