Hi, hi! I'm a fan of all genres of music, though, like you, I started out with pop and punk. I've been bouncing back and forth between genres for a long time, but if you're looking for something heavier and don't know where to start, I highly recommend Gothminister. Their music has changed with each album, but I've listened to every single one until I've worn them out. :D

It's hard to say what I would recommend as most of the music I listen to is either videogame/anime OSTs, not to mention I listen to a lot of Japanese songs too (J-pop, city pop, etc.); doesn't help either that metal is admittedly not one of my favorite genres along with rap, country, and dubstep. While I don't keep up with a bunch of artists, the few that I do are Porter Robinson, Joji, and Fox Stevenson.

I suppose my favorites are:

Oysterband - A folk-rock group out of England. Kind of an interesting mix of traditional songs with more political ones here and there, of a fairly progressive bent. It's tough to choose a favorite album, but Deserters (1992) is a pretty good introduction to their work as a whole, I think. In the process of a slow retirement, but still good.

Great Big Sea - A Canadian folk-rock group (see a pattern?) out of Newfoundland. Retired now, but still worth a listen, I think. Favorite album is Play (1997) which is the one I started with.

Hm. Tough one. Megan's already taken my best suggestions and most of what I listen to kinda besides that are folks like Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, or more folk/folk rock groups. Not really into metal so I can't help you there, either. Sorry. But I do hope you can find some interesting things and do share if you do! I could probably use some variety as well.

I'm an old gen Kpop listener so I haven't listened to anything new new BUT these are my favorite groups/songs

EXO - Kokobop, Lotto, Love Me Right (honesty all their songs/albums are good, I love a good bridge in songs)
TWICE - Fancy, feel special, I can't stop me (love them omgg)

I listen to all kinds of music, but Heavy Metal will always have a special place in my heart.
My favorite Band is Blind Guardian. Especially their Nightfall in Middle Earth album. Which is based on Tolkiens works.
