Accepting the Risks and Keeping Windows 10
3 days ago
In an age where Microsoft seems to have it in for any OS older than Windows 11, I've decided to accept the risks of continuing to run Windows 10 on my Lenovo laptop. Prior to the end-of-support date for Windows 10, I already made up my mind that Windows 11 will not be installed on the Lenovo, initially because of the poor performance that my friends had experienced with W11 on their aging computers. I have heard that Microsoft is starting to rely on AI to write operating systems, and with this being said, I personally have no reason to move forward with Microsoft or Windows, as I strongly oppose the use of AI for anything, be it art, music, stories, programming, or anything else that can be generated with AI.
It is official: I strongly oppose AI everything, regardless of what it is or where it's created/posted.
But I digress.
In protest to Microsoft's behavior, I opted to install Linux Mint alongside Windows 10, and I'm starting to love Mint. I haven't updated Windows 10 since September, and yet the Lenovo continues to run just fine, however I now have a backup OS to boot into if something goes wrong with W10 (or if, Heaven forbid, Microsoft decides that I'm no longer allowed to run W10). I do have a MacBook Pro as well, which I bought new back in May, so at least I still have a relatively stronger chance against cybersecurity threats compared to Windows 10. It's worth mentioning that it took years for me to save up for the MacBook Pro, but I feel that the wait was darn worth it.
As such, I've voluntarily entrusted the management of my most sensitive data with the ever-strengthening security of my MacBook, and have reserved the noncritical stuff for Windows 10. This sidegrade will not affect my ability to manage my FurAffinity account.
