Hunters Unlucky by Abigail Hilton
I've just finished reading Hunters Unlucky by Abigail Hilton! Can't remember if i've ever written a review for a book before, but here we go!
Since I can be a bit of a slow reader, I was intimidated by the 220,000 word count when I picked up this book, but I have to say that as soon as I got into it, it was a breeze to take in. I finished it in less than three weeks! This was my first book by this author, and I was lured by the original species that make up the characters, and hooked by the unfolding cultures of each species as I read. The deeper I got, the harder it was to put down. The world is lush and alive, the characters feel nuanced and fully realized, each with their own set of ideals and principles, and of course their struggle to live by them. It was a delight to be pulled into their stories, and to feel myself grow so attached as things progressed.
I hope to illustrate some of the subjects, but I have yet to decide who because there are so many i'm considering. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in xenofiction, or animals in general, and look forward to dipping into more of Hilton's other works.

I've had the audio book sitting around for ages, I should really get around to giving it a listen, I keep seeing it be mentioned.

OP
there are a handful of sapient creatures that reside on the island where it takes place- my favorite is probably telshees, powerful limbless furred creatures with a seal-like face that grow enormous over their lifetimes!
ophryon has done some wonderful illustrations of a bunch of Abigail's creatures!
