Moving to a new life! (West to east coast!)
General
Special news today!
I am moving from the west coast to the east coast on January 27th! Some very good friends and I are going to be living in a house together, striving to improve our lives!
I have enjoyed existing in California (and, for the bulk of my life, in my hometown), but now it is time to move on to where I am meant to be.
SO! In the next few weeks, everything from Christmas to writing to the logistics of shipping belongings and, later, getting furnishings into the new house will occupy my mind. Yippee!
If you are a California friend, goodbye. I blow a kiss to you.
If you are an east coast person, greetings! I am coming for you.
If you would like to donate to my mission of shipping my books, clothing, tech and other miscenallenous personal effects through UPS, PEEP my gofundme: https://gofund.me/59b94e77f

But seriously, congratulations, and best of luck on your move!
WARNING: BE EXTREMELY ULTRA CAREFUL if you are using a moving company! Every single one of them, without exception, is a nightmare to deal with and don't just lie, but also don't communicate much as all.
Read the contract, in detail. Get answers up front. Recognize that you're really just dealing with a broker who is subcontracting out the actual work to a trucking company, the drivers for that trucking company, and movers.
Also, if you decide on a company, take the time to look up their reviews online and on BBB. Just read the complaints to figure out how they actually work and what the scam they are running is (for example, the subcontracted trucking company has a deal with a storage facility to hold your shit hostage until you pay both of them extra), and how long you can expect delays.
For example, the company may agree to 30 days, but then they'll just go completely dark on you after your stuff gets picked up, and won't tell you that the driver abandoned the truck in Montana and then there's a blizzard and the new driver tells you this after it's been 80 days and he tells you what happened (because they don't respond and don't give you any way to contact anyone actually involved in the physical activity or proximity of your stuff)
And thank you!
So, actually, I am not using a moving company/truck/etc. I am shipping everything exclusively through UPS—ground shipping. It gets SUPER expensive with weight if you try to express anything, so I'm just going with the slowest shipping option possible (like 5-7 business days)? But thankfully, with this option it's still considerably cheaper and less of a hassle imo than going through any truckers. I'll be happy if I can get everything in 10-15 big boxes. But yeah, the number of boxes does account for more expenses than even weight or dimension, so I'm gonna try to keep it to as few packages as possible.
Oh the restaurants I can recommend :D
Here's hoping Southwest's nuts and bolts hold together!
