Worldbuilding Wednesday - Oceans
General
Oceans are a fascinating part of any sci-fi or fantasy world. They're a fruitful void: at once a spookily dark and forbidding place, but also a place of great beauty and bounty. You can drown in an ocean, but you can also enjoy a delicious fish supper. What are your oceans like - did you make them simply as ways to keep two countries part, or do you really invest in making your oceans an area to explore in themselves? Do you have mythical oceanic monsters such as mermaids or kraken? Do you have whirlpools or subterranean oceans? Tell us about them!

For my spec evo world the oceans are not unlike our own, but since in most of the planet's history there was only a single major continent it was basically a vast super ocean covering much of the globe
I also have a few other alien world ideas, one being an ocean world with little dry land in the form of small islands, a Europa-like ice world with an ocean surrounded by an ice crust, and a tidally locked with a sort of ocean around its ring (ice from the night side melts into water in the day side before evaporating into a massive storm zone). Based off of a video by Kurzegast I've also thought about making my tidally locked world an ocean one
The other main world I have is actually a version of Hell inspired by the Helluverse, and while it's mostly a barren and desolate landscape, with blood-red lakes and rivers being the only bodies of water, I have thought of there being an inky black ocean or sea, with no one knowing what lies beyond it... or beneath it... (likewise it's unknown if this ocean is simply a large body of water surrounded by land, or if the Hell we now of is just a continent surrounded by ocean) (eerie, right? XD)
