Yeah, I had a good friend that disappeared. She was a really good artist and I hope she just like, grew out of it and didn't die cuz she was in a really bad way last I talked to her.

Though I will say, a number of artists I thought left or died or whatever were actually just exclusively posting on Twitter or somewhere and didn't tell anyone.

As much as I know some artists loathe the "chans" / reposting sites, in this case they at least preserved some of the art. While not to my usual preference, there are several there that I know others will enjoy.

The e621 proved a most profitable dig. Far from everything, I guess, but I found a utility that will plow through what's out there and download it to my machine. Pulled in almost 260 full-sized images in about 90 seconds.

Impressive. I may talk with you about it directly in notes. I know of a few other artists now deceased who hopefully have files that can still be found. The internet book worms make those of Dune look like fishing bait.

A lot of artists are getting kinda sick of AI shite costing them money, and conventions no longer really supporting the artists and their work. I know I am. I wouldn't be surprised if other artists are stepping back from furry as a result.

Kind of disheartening, especially for no-name hobbyists to spend hours drawing or days working on something, only for it to be buried instantly by 100 different AI generated slop pics that someone generated in seconds. It kind of kills the fun. People trying to make a living from it are even worse off.

Many artist find another path.
Some change names or handles to separate a part of themselves. I had to do that and I know I left a LOT of fans in the dark... So the disappearance thing I can sorta relate with.

Could be they stepped away for that, though with AI infiltrating even the business space, that might not last long.

This is why it's maybe a smart thing to ask your friends for their email or other more personal info since as we have now learned, what is pun online is *not* forever and may arbitrarily dissapear one day without any notice.

Generally furries go dark for a few reasons:
- They find a mainstream job and they don't want their lascivious stuff traced back to them, somehow?
- They are teens and after the hormonal cocktail calms down they find out they aren't all that interested in furry (it was indeed just a phase)
- They burn out and leave, more recently this may also be exacerbated by AI
- They are no longer alive (it happens, sadly, and if nobody knew they were a furry, their next of kin won't inform their furry friends)
