Pets

General
Forgot to add that i'm also planning to get a Pet.
Feel free to help me in this decision, tho i'm mostly narrowed down already in this regard.
Considered it for a very long time but always end up argueing against getting a Pet since i wasn't sure if i would be able to take proper care of it with all the mental struggles and Stuff going on.
But now with my mental Health improving and having Backup, i can finally make my Steps toward it.
First of all i would need to get properly prepared, taking a lot of stuff into consideration like finances, Vets and Shops nearby, Equipment, is my home big enough etc.
Then also what type of Pet, i grew up mostly with Cats, but wouldn't wanna wish for a Cat myself.
I tend overall towards a mammal or reptile, nothing aquatic or crawling x_x
Rabbits probably not (my relationship with them is kinda fucked since i grew up rural and if you know, you know)
The obvious Choice would be Rats, but they don't live that long sadly :(
I was always a Dog Person, here i would very likely need the most advice from shelters, vets, dog schools.
Not really a fan of small Dogs or how we call them in Germany "Fußhupen"
There are some really nice smaller Dogs, there are some really ugly smaller Dogs, but overall they're not really appealing to me.
Tormentbreeds are obviously a big NO (like Pugs etc.) unless it's literally a rescue and no one get's some value out of breeding or selling them, at least giving them someone to take care of them for the rest of their life. (Tho this might sadly not work financially for me regarding Vet costs and Stuff)
If anyone can recommend certain breeds, feel free to let me know
As i mentioned i'm from germany, so take into consideration that not everything you recommend might be available here :P
Here's some Info and stuff:
1. I got a rather small and compact place (there are no potential hazards, it's just very limited)
So a Type of House Dog would make most sense with a rather chill and relaxed Spirit
The guy who lived here before me also had a Dog (Retriever)
2. There is plenty of room to take Walks in my Area, it's mostly quiet here, but in order to get to Dog Schools, Vets, Shops etc. i would have to drive or take public transport
So some advice regarding transportation/Drives would be welcome
3. I never had allergies regarding Dogs, but i would overall like a Dog that doesn't hair excessively and wouldn't require a lot of Furcare
4. We have a mixxed Climate here around the year, but it tends to get hotter and not colder over the last Decade.
5. What's some stuff i should definetily take care of first before getting a Dog?
6. What's some stuff i should definetily beware of (at home but also outside) that can be dangerous for me or my Dog?
7. All the medical Stuff i'll be talking trough with a vet before getting a Dog
8. I'm obviously planning to draw a lot, what's some good time patterns to keep up with so the Dog will not feel neglected, but gives me still enough time to focus and do my Art?
9. What's some red flags i should be aware of when it comes to Dog Behaviour? (Injuries, Sickness, Mental Distress etc.)
10. Anything i should take in consideration when coming back from Walks? (Like checking for ticks and stuff like that)
11. Some stuff i should avoid bringing my Dog close to? (In terms of risks of parasites that can be dangerous for the Dog or even myself)
Type of Dogs i personally favor the most (The Order in which they're listed here doesn't matter)
Remember, i'm not an experienced Dog owner, so take that into consideration! But i'm willing to invest as much time is needed to train them
- Rottweilers
- Dobermann
- Retrievers
- Shepherds
- Border Collies
- Bernese
- Ainus and Shiba
- Dalmatians
- Samojede/Samojedskaja's
- Akbash
- Boxers
- Ca de Bestiar
- That Irish ones which names i forgot (lmao)
- Laika (Yup the Breed is called just like the Dog they send to space)
There is probably many more that are very similar to the ones listed, so feel free to tell me about them :)
