The often unusual musings of an old cat
This time it was a Grandma whose 11 year old granddaughter was recently diagnosed Celiac. Again, the opening question was bread, for dressing with Christmas dinner. I showed her the photo I have of the wrapper, explained other types available, warned to watch for 'organics' often shelved beside the GF. Explained treats like KIND bars, Made Good bars and Allergy Alert cookies. Gave her the full data burst, and because she specifically asked showed her a picture of the box of GF graham cracker crumbs for dessert crusts.
She hugged me on her way out at the end of her appointment and her husband took the time to thank me for 'educating his wife." They also suggested I should write this all out for people.
If I can save a new Celiac a few steps on their journey of a thousand miles, I'm happy to do it
Last Monday was the company Christmas dinner, which was just food at a pub with GF options and a serious take on it. I got a mushroom swiss burger. My boss like my mom and invited her as well, but Mom can sometimes run the conversation and my newly retired coworker was getting left out. I asked her about the new dog she was fostering on her way to adoption. She got to fill us in on her new little buddy.
On the way back to my truck after I see some people trying to help a man with a mobility scooter. He was stuck in the ice and snow. I come on scene and see that the front wheels are the drive wheels and they are spinning in an ice trench. With two of us we were able to grab and lift the front of the scooter and send him on his way. He thanked us and my fellow Good Samaritan thanked me for helping as well. But really, it's what we do.
So, I feeling pretty Christmas cheered.
Hope Santa was watching.
