What’s the best books you read this year
Mine are:
I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman which is like getting punched in the stomach in slow motion
Lost In the Garden by Adam S Leslie. It’s kind of like Roadside Picnic set in the English countryside but much much more than that
The Empusium by Olga Tokarczuk. The translation is beautiful, the story is great, some real fucking nasty gross moments, the book is a lot of things.
My Year Of Rest and Relaxation by Otessa Moshfegh. woman moment
Paradise Rot by Jenny Hval. Like having sex with rotting meat.

I think one of my favorite books of all time was Lamb by Christopher Moore. Just fun.
Hyperion is great classic sci-fi
The Communist Manifesto was also pretty cool, reading the source material cleared up some things for us lol
The Course of Empire by Erik Flint & K.D. Wentworth. Sci-Fi novel set in a time after a species of alien 'furries' (vaguely canine/otter in appearance) conquered the Earth. It explores the post-war occupation of Earth and the brewing conflict with a 2nd alien species that the 1st is in a war with, a war that now threatens Earth.
This is book 1 of a trilogy, all of which are worth a read.
also read Tender is The Flesh finally; pretty damn good and Viscerally uncomfortable and upsetting. very Cold book,
I finally read King Leopold's Ghost, which was about as bleak as expected, I kept having to set it aside and come back to it.
Originally found her through her Song of Achilles novel, but Circe was a far, far better read despite my love for gay boys.
Hope you have a good holiday.
Dhalgren by Samuel Delany
The Politics and Poetics of Transgression by Peter Stallybrass and Allon White
Brown Girl In The Ring by Nalo Hopkinson
Well of Shiuan by C.J. Cherryh
I'll have to eye Lost int he Garden now. Currently sloowly reading Elric of Melniborne book 1 for some studies on classic D&D literature influences.
I have not read any Eric melnibone books. I would like to, one day, so many artists I like enjoy them. When i have an appetite for classic fantasy again perhaps inWILL
im slowly makin my way thru babel by r.f. kuang rn. really makes you think about the power of language and the ways colonialism can wield it
