I heard it's a bad time to be a tourist, because ongoing protests of the housing crisis exacerbated by white gentrifiers. (Mentioning race specifically because that would impact your experience. )
I don't know what you thought my motivations are, and I don't know why it is insufferable to make sure someone knows a potential ongoing risk. But if I was insufferable I'm genuinely sorry about my comment.
The world just needs more "self aware" white abeled americans speaking for another countries reputation and culture this fine gentleman (their cock is also HUGE) here tries to visits and partake in, especially in the high regards you just brought up. it's generations of moms who never left their state who will tell you how dangerous x and y place is to perpetuate this fear as if there is nothing else going on in those 2000 square kilometers "they have crime and brown people there :( pls only visit safe countries in this current climate (some white country like amsterdam, paris or berlin naturally)".
Yes, it goes without saying, go about it with caution but that applies to any country, environment or social space you visit, yet, Do you wanna be some pearl clutching gringo who sits around resorts and eating coxinha with disposable gloves or do you wanna sit at the local bar drinking CARTA BLANCA with Valentina and Migue Fernandez juan dos santos de paulo picasso? which way "first word" man - you'll tell someone from the US "oh I'm going to Seattle next year" and instead of "oh please be mindful about getting shot over the slightest traffic altercation" it's "come by california we have taccos xDDDD and some furrycon xDD"
I don't know your "motivations" but your actions clearly don't speak about something pleasant to do in mexcio, how to connect to the people, how to experience the countrys kindness, where to get banger tattoos or which places let you touch lizzards. mentioning race specifically my ass
I get what you mean. The first time I went to Germany was for EF2016, my Ohioan mother warned me about ISIS building momentum in Germany (they weren't) and begged me not to leave the US. It was pathetic and embarrassing of her. At the time we were 7x more likely to be killed by a cop than some Islamophobic strawman--and I'm sure it's higher now. She didn't know or care about reality. She wanted to elevate herself and her xenophobia and dress it as advice.
My only time in Mexico was a furry con in Guadalajara, and it was incredible. I've heard so many wonderful things about Mexico City I would love to experience it one day. I don't like how few people appreciate Mexican history and all its cultures. Unfortunately, the US Housing crisis continues destroying other countries' affordable housing, it does have racialized impacts. I don't expect the average Western tourist to have this on their radar. I know way more Westerners traveling to Hawaii than signal boosting the indigenous people begging the tourism to stop. I don't know Copperroach beyond a few kind interactions. I don't know their values or their local connections. I know they do a lot of traveling. If I was visiting a city suffering from a housing crisis, and it was made worse by the white gentrifiers indifferent to it all, I think it's safe to say this would impact my travel plans, like minding my B&B options. Mexico City is huge, so maybe my suggestion is irrelevant. I just offered a simple check in so they have the info on their radar. What they do with the suggestions isn't my business, and I'm not here to make a judgment call.
I live in an international tourist destination in New Mexico. We get lots of Mexican immigrants. I live near an ICE headquarters. Race, housing markets, and the good and bad of tourism play out in front of me daily. These discussions are normal and unfortunately unnecessary for me and my loved ones. I see how that could hit a sour note when it distracts from all the vibrant and cool shit a culture has to offer (especially Mexico). I know the type of guy you're talking about. The pearl clutching is real. But that isn't me. Those people offer suggestions to simulate value in their own lives.
You projected a lot onto me that didn't apply. I get it, but it hurts and I wish you hadn't done it. I struggle against the same bullshit you're decrying in your assumptions. I think if you knew what my life was like you wouldn't have treated me this way. I don't want to think of this interaction each time I see you, your art, or your avatar, and I hope you'll extend the same courtesy to me.
And thank you for trusting me with an explanation. I hope sharing some of my context isn't somehow making this worse. I really don't like having this interaction under a journal about someone else's travel plans, so I hope we can end it here.
fuck that's a lot of words but yeah no it's cool! i think getting into """"fights"""" in other peoples journal kinda dope as fuck, let the boys know everything is a combat zone if you let us but i do fully get where you coming from, we gucci ´w ´
The National Museum of Art (MUNAL) and the Anthropology Museum are some of the best in the city. Coyoacan town center is a nice stroll with some good food and some cool historic things to see (Frida Kahlo's museum, the Trotsky house). I also really like the historic downtown.
The "trendy" neighborhoods (e.g. Colonia Roma and La Condesa) are gentrified to hell.
I would recommend Castillo de Chapultepc, la Casa Azul, Templo Mayor, and Museo Nacional de Antropología if you in the mood on seeing some historical places around the city.
Plenty of museums and interesting stores!
I recommend the National Anthropolgy Museum (MNA), or, if you want something more little, the Templo Mayor museum.
Coyoacán is a good place to visit too.
If you want a guide, hit me up! :3
Go see the only panda in the Americas and the last one that does not belong to china in chapultepec zoo because she's OLD, and i mean probably less than 5 years to a few months left. Not only is entry free, it's pretty chill during weekdays.
I haven't been, but there's a stained glass hallway in Chapultepec Castle that's on my list of things that would be neat to see in person; given how you play with light in your art that might be fun for you.
Looks like it's next to a zoo and an anthropology museum so, hey, could be three trips in one.
