Happy 2026! *Still on Maternity Leave*

Happy Holidays to everyone and a great new year!

Art update:
My current priorities are patreon rewards (paid), then CanFURence commissions (unpaid) and finally back to commissions, including underwear customs over on Etsy!
I will be setting aside a few hours each week to progress on these goals as the new baby settles into a routine and I have outside help with care duties!
I miss doing art and can't wait to be back! Worst case scenario, my little girl will start daycare in August so I will be back full-time then.

Life update:
Our baby girl is doing great! She had a difficult first two months of colic due to an intolerance. We tried a bunch of things including visiting a Physio and an Ostheo until finally she was placed on low lactose formula.
The insurance refused to cover the formula even tho it is covered by the provincial insurance. Per the law they have to offer the same basic coverage as the provincial insurance. It took two months, many complaints and phone calls but we finally got coverage for it. Good thing it was retroactive.
Her symptoms came back a month ago and she was switched to another formula. I have to do the dance with the insurer all over again.
Every time she changes formula it's like hitting a reset button. Sleeping only four hours at a time, night feedings and no schedule. After a month on this second formula she is finally back into a routine and sleeping her nights.
I was pumping milk and feeding it to her since birth (she wouldn't latch). After we found out about her intolerance I decided NOT to do an eviction diet cause I honestly had no energy left in me after the pregnancy. It was also complicating meal times with the toddler. So instead I had to come to term with the end of breastfeeding. Sounds dumb but it was a heartbreak for me. Pumping is alot of work, I did it for six months with my first and I wanted to do it for as long as I could or six months for this one but things happened differently. I gave away over 30 liters of frozen breastmilk. I have kept some and I plan to make soap with it as a way to help me cope. I need to feel like it wasn't all for nothing. Pumping means waking up every 4-6 hours to pump, wash the pump and store the milk. This is on top of caring and waking with the baby. (Show some respect to those pumping mums!)
Things have been difficult for me to handle, the sleep deprivation, the anxiety, the worry... I'm getting the help I need for a postpartum depression. There are a lot of things for me to unpack with the pregnancy and these chaotic four months. I'm still recovering physically so it doesn't help the overall mental state!
______________
With all of this I am feeling hopeful for 2026, for things to fall into place, routines and familiar beats. I feel that this year will be more like a flowing river and less like rapids. Not a lazy river but still calmer waters :P I'm very much still alive, still in love with my family and my life. I will endure and come out the other end like I always do. Maybe even a bit wiser for it. Or maybe not :P
Thank you for all your support and patience!

Here's to hoping.
Sounds like you've been an amazing mother so far doing everything you can for your little one! I've never pumped but my friend has and I remember it being hard for her. I'm glad to hear you were able to give away some of the milk! I'm sure it will help people <3 I do hope the soap making at least gives you a nice keepsake from your hard work.
Here's Hoping the little one stays healthy and doesn't have to switch formula again and that you have a easier year ahead. Looking forward to seeing art from you again in the future!
Looking forward to arting! we will have to do another trade this year ^^
