Further Confusion 2026
General
So I went to Further Confusion 2026 just a few days ago and had a grand time.
Just for a little context I have a lot of personal nostalgia for Further Confusion as it was one of my first conventions. It was the first convention where I was a dealer for FurPlanet and I met several good furs who became good acquaintances. I’ve been back many times and continued to enjoy it as a favorite event. I’m fully aware by this point it would take a great deal for me to have a bad time at the convention as I have too many good memories including the year I took the train to San Francisco and had to walk in the rain getting soaked looking for this particular restaurant (it was an amazing time).
This year was no different and only added to many good memories.
So I had to wake up early to make my flight out, but my ride (my dad) got me to the airport. A benefit to the new living situation is I have easy rides places as needed. As usual the Albuquerque Sunport is a breeze to get through and I got to my flight just fine. I had gotten a southwest ticket as they were fairly cheap but I remain displeased about the new charges for bags and now they’re getting rid of their free seating system. Very annoying.
Well my flight had only sixty-eight people on it so I had a very relaxing flight. San Diego was my stop over, there are no direct flights from Albuquerque to the San Jose region, and I got another sixty person flight to San Jose. Arriving fifteen minutes early I got my bag with ease and met up with Jax Coyote.
Jax and I have a tradition of taking the light rail into the city for the last few years. We are actually both from the same city but we never plan our trips together we just sort of end up doing this. So we had a fun time chatting on the rail, arriving at the convention space (it is so easy to get to the convention this way). Anyway it was lovely and this year thanks to Bear and Beagle ( https://bearandbeagle.store/ ) I had personalized stickers to give the delightful yote.
Those stickers by the way were GREAT and a joy to have at this convention. If you need some stickers or other merchandise hit the big bear Kosh up for a professional and great looking sticker: https://bearandbeagle.store/
Anyway I got there first so I checked into the room, put my stuff away and exchanged text messages with Teiran who had arrived on his flight soon after I did. He got to the room exhausted and wanted a nap. Turned out he had gotten lunch at the airport so I went off for a meal by myself. I hiked over to San Pedro Market for the food hall there and got a righteous Chicken Sandwich and fries then Mochi Donuts for dessert to be decadent.
After that I went back to the hotel and hung out with Teiran while we waited for Shiva and Savrin to arrive. This was Shiva’s first trip to Further Confusion and she was helping out the table by being the copilot for Savrin to get him there and back again. It turned out she was a gem of a roomie to have: good conversationalist, clean, helpful, and great about making sure we had plenty of towels (a long running frustration for me in hotels that sends me into apoplectic fury as all others can attest). Savrin was, as always, good company and helpful at the tble.
Their van arrived we got to the unpacking and organizing (and shiva and savrin got a well deserved rest in the room). It took a few hours but it got done. I admit this year was a little bit of a struggle as we had a new location for the table and there were hiccups. Still everything got out and up. As a group we moseyed on over to SoFa Market where I tried their Japa Curry location which was solid as a meal (and unlike some Japanese Curries I’ve had it didn’t feel like they skimped on the meat or gave a substandard dish). The Pizza Way was closed down which is a shame but not a surprise. I’m honestly surprised Umi sushi place is there considering how expensive it is.
After that a little hanging around but I was tired from being up at 5 AM so bed soon enough. Still I did explore the convention space. I love what FC does in the Zoo with their section for Fursuit Photos and on theme event props. It is so well done and fun. This year’s theme was Beach Episode and they really did an amazing job with the art and concept this year. The board walk free games for fursuiters was very creative. I just want to note how much I love that aspect of the convention and how well it worked this year.
The next morning I got up with gusto and fairly ran down stairs to go to Whispers for Breakfast. Which was when I discovered I was up to early and dressed incorrectly for the morning chill so I went up stairs and settled down for an hour. Then I went to Whispers. At this point Whispers is a family tradition as all my aunts expect photos of my morning crepes from there, and the guy who works the register when I came in said “oh, you’re back? [Further Confusion] must be happening again.”
Crepe and photo achieved I grabbed Starbucks for the gang back at the room. Well first I ran into Tabbi and some of his friends and said hello. I tried to out coy the cat but Tabbi is a master of such verbal ripostes and easily bested me. Then after my defeat drinks were delivered. After that t was back to the table for final touch ups and then the convention doors opened for people to come into the Dealer’s Den. This is where I ran into Kyell Gold and Kit Silver and got to hang out with them at the table for a bit.
As always an active Dealer area and I got to see a lot of great folks from behind the table. Mary Mouse had a lot of fun new certified badges, Cameron Hops had some great new art, the Delver’s Guide to the Beast World folks sold some excellent new modules, Kipper's lovely art and swag section full of fun stickers and shirts, and I saw plenty of fun new items and familiar pieces. Tredain stopped by for a tiny bit as did Xex. JacFox also stopped by too, fortunately he came back to see me wearing the badge he drew for me a few years back. Very ashamed I didn’t find more time to hang out with any of them. It was also just busy selling so I was lucky to get lunch (Empanadas with Kit and Kyell). VietNoms for dinner back at SoFa Market but I admit I was exhausted after the busy day so I hit the hay early.
Saturday I quietly slipped down stairs (I’m sure I crashed around enough to wake everyone up) for another Whispers and Starbucks run. Savrin and I opened the table and it was a smooth if busy day. Jakebe stopped by to help out. Reggie and Pouch came by the table to chat and say hello. Arilin came by to check on their own books and say hello. Donryu stopped by too which was fun. Generally a good collection of people and seeing old friends who don’t go to any other convention.
Slower then Friday though, which seems to be the case at FC. Shockingly three people bought my book this convention. Color me surprised. Dinner was back at San Pedro Market food hall but the place was packed due to the big football game match everyone was watching. I ended up splitting off from the main gang as it was far too crowded. I ran into Chariot and some other folks and chatted for a bit before finally getting around to ordering some good. I ended up playing Food Taxi for Shiva with some chicken from Master Shin’s Korean place at the venue.
After having hanging with Shiva and eating my dinner I went down to the hall to see folks and take pictures. Further Confusions famous Night Market is on Saturday night and while I haven’t been to it (too crowded and noisy from what I saw of it) I do love walking the line and saying hello to people. I ran into Boken and his boyfriend and we chatted for a nice long bit. Ran into Tabbi and Streaks. Generally had a lovely evening.
I must have tuckered myself out because I slept in Sunday. I somehow slept through Shiva and Savrin heading out to Monterey Bay for tourism. Due to sleeping in I missed my window to get crepes at Whispers (DISASTER!!) but I got some starbucks and at least got to the table somewhat on time. I admit the first hour felt very pressured and I felt “off” for a bit. Still I found my legs eventually and while Sunday was as busy as Saturday it went overall well.
I did get crepes at Whispers for lunch so that helped. I got a spinach and bell pepper crepe and a banana and walnut crepe for dessert. I needed the veggies, clearly, and it restored me a lot.
Pack up went smoothly, but I’m always more of a hindrance then a help at that one. We as a table went to Il Forino for dinner which was pleasant and hey I rank into Jeff Eddy there and we chatted a bit. I did a little con wandering and hung out with Royce and Jac Fox for a bit but I felt tired from the long day.
So here came Monday. Savrin and Shiva left early. That gave Teiran and I a few hours to hang out before I too had to leave. We did that just hanging out and chatting. We did more chatting then usual this convention which was nice. It is sometimes good to just touch base with your best friend. Honestly I love FC enough that I wish I could stay for the extra days since technically FC has events into Tuesday. That couldn’t happen so instead a quiet morning and good bye.
Took a lyft to the San Jose airport. With no major problems getting through security I grabbed a burger and then soon was off. My lay over was in Las Vegas and I got reminded how much I hate that crowded mess of an airport. My flight home was packed as well and I got home a little motion sick. Parents greeted me with a rather larger dinner I was not up for after the travel. Still I ate decently and got my bags unpacked. Mom announced she didn’t want to do the big cleaning project until the weekend (our annual mid January deep clean). So a good time to do the journal.
Overall it was a great time with friends at a fun convention I love. I just wish I had more days of it. It is just nice seeing friends and folks and enjoying pleasant bay area weather.
