update- I got replaced by AI

I just have to put this energy somewhere.
I've been in the process of mental recovery after some tricky lows- but guys.. the theater company that ive worked with for 3 years has been using AI projections as their set backgrounds.. so in oct I volunteered to draw them whatever they wanted for free, so they wouldn't pick AI
I sent wips. I had a meetings with them in person. Went over things and colours. I spent hours on these backgrounds. I offered to change or adjust anything to help make them fit well. I used up my xmas break finishing.
I went to the show last night-- the just used the AI images. My art was nowhere.
And actually worst of all my name was still in the program for the backgrounds. Thousands of people saw MY name next to AI slop. And all through intermission I had to correct friends and colleagues that no, that wasn't my work. Im srry to be dramatic but I had to run to a stairwell to let out tears..
I even had written in my application that the reason i was volunteering my work and time was that I was trying to help keep AI out of local theater...
I didn't need them to use MY art. I dont think my art is perfectly amazing, but I just didn't want AI. I just wanted to help preserve human art..
I am choosing myself and love and we keep arting forever~ thank you everyone for supporting artists by being here.

I do understand there are areas (like medical research) where there is a little more nuance. But fuck AI.
And that they put your name next to that stuff is worse than "working for exposure", might even be close to diffamation.
I hope you can find a better, less-abusive job in the future! stay strong LillyMoo, and keep up your real, amazing artwork. your hard work is appreciated!

Just... Ugh.
That's incredibly disappointing that they would take all of your time and care and throw it all away.
We'll keep supporting you here, even if they can't see what they've missed out on
If at all possible look into what recourse you can undertake, like others are saying I would assume this is defamation, since quite clearly you've had no involvement, especially so with 'work' you didn't create, yet others are using your name without permission.

I am so sick of all this AI bs going around. It is genuinely tiring.
I can understand using Gen AI as a placeholder, or to try and nail down a vibe for the mood board, but NOT as the finished product.
The vast overwhelming majority of AI use cases make absolutely no economic sense. They are only using this technology at the moment because they don't have to pay the actual costs to create and run the models. It's VC money or money from Nvidia keeping this going. One day, these AI companies are going to have to actually charge what it costs to run models and it's going to be too expensive vs hiring a person.
If that wasn't enough, the copyright lawsuits are not going well against the AI companies. So it's going to be a double hit against them.
I know this does absolutely nothing to help you right now, but hopefully it helps you see that this is only a temporary thing and it will get better.
I hate this entire timeline.
