Just to clarify, this isn't like what f-list is doing where they plan on revamping the whole site and delete the old one, and instead this is just an opt-in future updates beta test like how steam does with some games' opt-in beta tests that you can turn off at any time and not risk having the old site nuked, right?

If the change with tagging usernames is done by adding the name to the output of the : usernameicon : function, that's going to annoy a fair number of people who use that for mosaic-style couples avatars, and the like. I hope that isn't the case, or there's another way to do the same thing.

My understanding is it's just the :*iconusername*: or @@*username code that's affected by this and :*usernameicon*: works just the same.

So using myself as an example, @@ carrehz would show as  carrehz but just has the icon without my name :) It's just been changed so it shows the display name (if one is set), whereas before it showed the username (or on the classic layout it had both, not sure how the Modern layout handled it).

So couples icons still work the same! ^_^

Oh hey, I never mentioned this, but I really like the update to following ppl or favouriting posts so that the page doesn't reload anymore. A small change visually, but a good one, and even better for people on slower connections.

Because when I enter a specific folder, such as comics, for example, I click on the arrows to go to another page but instead it jumps to art from the general gallery itself instead of what is in the corresponding folder. What I've seen artists do to avoid this is post their own "next page" and "previous page" in the top of the description, with the text linked to the appropriate page. It's essential for artists with multiple ongoing comics, extra art, or comics that take years to make and publish.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of artists I follow that just don't do this. I can't blame some of them if they didn't start it a long time ago and they're chapters and chapters deep at this point, it would be a MASSIVE pain to go back and add it to every single one, but adding them to a folder is nice and simple!

But yes, them adding the links to the next and previous is much appreciated when they do it!

Fix the way clicking an image works. Get rid of that stupid "X" and make clicking the image minimize it again. Or at the very least, Move the "X" to a more intuitive location, such as the upper right corner.

Looks good so far! I had to do a hard refresh to get things to show up on the beta, oddly, but it seems to be showing properly now! Always happy to see some strides being made to improve the site, thank you for all of the hard work.

For the mini-gallery, I feel like the width for title portion (where it says older/newer and such between submissions) is too squished. Bumping it up another 10 to 40px (to 120 to 150px) would look a bit better and make it feel less crammed together, especially on higher resolutions.

I do like the minigallery below the submissions though, feels a lot easier to browse and navigate through someone's stuff. Will there be a way in the future to change the minigallery to display more than just 3 new and 3 old? I'd like to bump that to 5 for each, personally.

Also, for the scaling of it which jumbles on smaller resolutions, I think removing the flex-wrap in the CSS may help with this, but I'd need to poke around a bit more and see what that causes issues with.

Links look so, so much better now on this version, I'm glad that we're finally getting some colours to links so it's easier to spot them in a gigantic amount of text.

I feel like more and more artists would get tons of visibility if those who are curating their watch list had another avenue of discovery. It may also encourage more creators to get into the rotation.

Noted, when a subscription is in my budget I'll check it out.

Usericons now show display names when tagged

Like, when you type usericon, only the icon shows , and then when you type iconuser, the icon and nickname show  DxM8 ..
Or did I misunderstand?

You can set a different display name to the actual name of your account, so for example if I wanted to set my name to Charlie And Sedric, it would show that instead of the other way around

The relocation of the mini-gallery has me happy beyond measure. That's been my biggest gripe with the Modern skin since first switching over two years ago

I'd like to see optimizations in formatting and user tagging though. Instead of having to do  Username it would be cool to just have an Username method instead.

... Please, let's not do flash 2.0, a .gif, or .webp if thou must, is perfectly sufficient for an ad banner.

If you want something animating, mp4/webm is *the* format for it, since it compresses really well and is supported by basically every device from the last decade or so.
It makes creators happy because you can have high FPS animations and no dithering or quality loss, and it makes webhosts happy because you get to serve a ~150kb mp4 instead of a ~50MB gif. Gif images compresses really, really terribly. Even static ones are horrendously bit crushed.

You could do animated webp I guess but the support for that is kind of iffy. For example iOS Safari didn't support it until 2020. Meanwhile mp4 was supported on Safari all the way back in 2010.

My favorite kind of updates, the small QoL stuff.

Many pending changes to the privacy scene are coming down the pipeline. Does furaffinity have any current plans beyond 'react when it happens'?

For example, international hosting, utilization of an alternative networking system, etc. etc.

It's a lot to ask, but I have a few journals talking about the changes to my own personal approach when it comes to Instant Messaging clients. Furaffinity as a website may find itself squarely in the crosshairs of one or more forms of direct pressure, how FA plans to use user information, what it retains, and what it will willingly give are now becoming open questions.

There's no right answer, only actions we can take in hopes that we can maintain the privacy and safety of users in the US and other countries. I'm increasingly paranoid that the internet which we all have known and made free use of will be gone in 5 years, be it due to weaponized mass surveillance or due to our status as unusual people made illegal and punishable by powers that be.

If you're not FA staff reading this journal, you should probably be thinking about how to secure yourself from retaliation, and from censorship.

They already ate weaponizing the internet for mass surveillance, and many more nefarious intents. As far as I can see, FA has been on the front lines of resisting that stuff. I feel like we're in good hands. The sites that get targeted the worst are the ones that put away profits, then the door is open for regulation. I feel like old school sites and communities like this are harder to target, but I could be wrong.

There is no Internet privacy and there never was, maybe people will get that now. I think you're right about international hosting. I don't know where this site is hosted right now, but there should be plans to move it somewhere that is not sympathetic to the US Government, in the event it becomes targeted. Not just furries, but LGBTQ, who make up a majority here and are already being targeted in the states.

Is there a timeframe on when this new beta version will be available to the wider userbase?

Not sure I like the Folders list below the post. I think it looks better to the side, below the tags. When you're looking below a post, typically you want to see the comments section.

I'm stuck on mobile, the desktop version of the site probably makes a lot more sense. I have to scroll all the way to the bottom of a gallery for folders!

This has been a feature on the site for a while now (no subscription needed).
You can access it by doing the following: Edit Profile > Scroll Down to Tag Block List > Add Tags you want to block

Also, you can opt in to Hide/Block Content Without Tags aswell.

These are some good quality-of-life updates.

However, the force daylight saving time correction is still not working on either site (Normal & Beta). I opened a trouble ticket for this back in November of 2025, and in December, I was told an ETA couldn't be given, but it was in the queue for the tech team to look into.

Normally, I wouldn't fuss over something like this, but it's a main feature that's not working and has been a pretty big issue the last couple of months for me.

Could we have Signal added to contacts? It is quite overdue, I feel!

About advertising, are you ever going to stop running That "click to catch your prey" Ad? i'm so tired of it, it's been around for years. I guess this is a sort of petty thing to wonder about. Why does that ad never go away?

If it's a paid advertisement, I imagine it'll continue running until the advertiser ends the campaign.

Well maybe there should be a limit to how much an advertiser can use a campaign, like a year long cutoff.
You cant tell me it isnt at least little annoying to see that same ad for years.

I'll admit I'm fairly indifferent to repeat ads, I'm kinda blind to all of them at this point, but understand it could be irritating.

That said, I don't really remember how the ads work here— if advertisers pay per click, or via lump sum.

The problem with this logic is FA *desperately* needs every $ of ad revenue it gets, so arbitrarily limiting themselves from a reliable paid advertiser is not in anybody's best interests.

From a business perspective repeat customers that always pay on time are the best customers that you want to bend over a bit to keep.

I'm struggling to word this correctly, because I don't want it to seem rude, but I'd like to try and share my concern about the current Trouble Ticket system.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe that currently, the Trouble Ticket system is purely governed by anonymous staff.

I feel like hiding staff identities causes a gap in transparency, and, I promise I'm not trying to sound cruel, but when handling sensitive reports, it's possible someone behind a mask would respond differently than if they were wearing a name tag.

Hopefully that made sense and didn't come off too brusque. I'm really passionate about this topic, but also terrible in articulating it.

I completely understand why staff would want to stay anonymous, and after ruminating on the topic, I'd like to share a small suggestion that I think could possibly help bridge the transparency gap!

I think assigning each staff member a non-identifying label could help, even something as simple as Staff Fox or Staff Blobfish has replied.

Also to bolster transparency further, creating annotations or labels denoting when a ticket has been reviewed by more than one person during the process.

I think that little bit of transparency would go a long way in helping users feel more confident in the process, while still keeping staff protected from frothing mobs carrying torches and pitchforks!

You are far from the first, and I sincerely doubt you'll be the last person to make this exact suggestion. I myself once made such a suggestion.

The problem is this can still lead to witch hunts where groups of users try to see who responded to what tickets and discern a pattern either in the responses or in the ticket categories, such as commonly seeing one particular staff animal responding to Code of Conduct tickets, and another to tickets under Acceptable Upload Policy.

Ultimately, and I'm just one voice - Full transparency is the better option, but it comes with serious cons that any staff agreeing to take the role would need to consider.

So right after the launch of this. My notifications are bugged. It shows I have 2 journals when I have cleared out them all. When I do get notifications for journals it just adds to the number. Like right now I actually only have 2 journals ebtries from people I am watching. But according to my notifications, I have 4

I did some poking around on the new changes and i have some feedback regarding to visibility/readability.

Readability with the new link changes is not that good imo.
For example my fav notification page before the changes: https://imgur.com/a/txo8sdf
Vs. After: https://imgur.com/a/wyAGg3x (The same is true for comments and journals as well)
The new lighter font color of the links combined with the underline makes it harder to read, and the new clicked link coloring adds to the confusion.

My suggestion for a fix would be reverting back to the old white for links. Or give us a way to disable the coloring of clicked links.
Alternatively as a wild suggestion, maybe don't display usernames like normal links and give them a different color do indicate it. For example instead of the new light grey with an underline make them the same blue like the title bars and remove the underline.
I think that would make a clear distinction if you are clicking on a link or a user profile.

And regarding to the new mini gallery:

The current implementation in the beta feels more like an afterthought instead of something new.
For one the preview images are smaller compared to before.
And there are fewer of them now, which makes the whole thing feel kinda useless.

In the old version you could also see other parts of a multi part series, which doesn't seem to be the case anymore now as it only shows the next and previous uploads in the gallery.

My suggestion would be to bring back the old gallery outright, or in addition to the new one, as the new one gives a quick glance of what else to expect. While the old one shows what it always has done (multiple parts for example). We have the horizontal monitor space so why not use it.

Update:

Apparently i was a bit wrong about the functionality of the old mini gallery.
I mostly just got lucky and the other parts of a series just got uploaded back to back, and thats why i thought it worked that way by default.

Although that would be a good feature to add.
Like a collection for uploads where multiple parts could get added to and prominetly displayed on the side for easy discoverability.
