This is
Armundy's personal art account.
Welcome to the Hierarchy-verse. This is my world building account where I show off my imagined universe. It’s a science fiction universe, that revolved mainly around the Proteus species and their civilization, the Hierarchy. I’ll be focusing on their society, biology, technology and so forth, as well as several other species who associate with the Proteus.
The Proteus were heavily inspired by the Founders from Deep Space Nine. Things like the Great Link and the facial appearance of (some) of the Proteus remain identical to the Founders. This is because after many years of trying to come up with something original to replace these things I haven’t found anything I like better. As much as I would prefer to have my own additions entirely separated out of the realm of fanfiction I haven’t been able to accomplish that. I’ve often thought about officially saying my creations are an AU of Star Trek, but really the only things I’ve taken from Star Trek is the Changeling species and some parts of the Dominion, it feels a little too tenuous. I have a love hate relationship with Star Trek. I really like the concepts for the Founders and Dominion, but I feel like they didn’t do enough with it and I have so many idea to explore. Yet I don’t care for the rest of Star Trek, it doesn’t interest me. So my creations are resigned to being some form of fanfiction, although I don’t know how to categories it.
So why am I making this world building project? In many sci-fi and fantasy stories the villains are often underdeveloped because of the needs of the story, whether that be to keep them mysterious, or unsympathetic, or just because the focus needs to remain on the heroes. Tolkien said he wanted to develop the orcs more but couldn’t fit it into the story. Since then fantasy writers, fans and game makers of all sorts, have fleshed out the orc species far more then Tolkien dreamed of, and even made made them sympathetic. There’s so many species in sci-fi I wish this would be done for, whether that’s the Changelings, or hive bugs, or various eldritch abominations.
For many years I hid my creations away on my hard drive, letting them sit unfinished. I feared the criticism I would get for being interested in such a fringe topic. I feared people calling me out on being unoriginal because my ideas are blatantly taken from media. I feared Star Trek fans cringing at my interest in the Dominion, but not the rest of Star Trek. I understand I have weird niche interests. I don’t know what’s changed now, I still worry about those things. I just don’t want to keep my ideas hidden forever.
While I intend to discuss things like Dyson Swarms and other forms of megastructures, which are usually considered hard sci-fi, I also plan on using soft sci-fi and even sci-fantasy things, such as psychic powers, alien gods and souls in my world building. I just wanted to let my readers know ahead of time this genre mixing was intentional, and not an ass-pull when it comes up later.
