Lately, the current war against Iran has had me thinking about the album Year Zero by Nine Inch Nails. The album was released in 2007, and it’s a concept album set in 2022. Part of the concept focuses on a war between the US and Iran, hence all the military themes. Nine Inch Nails were just off by 4 years. Granted the album was made during that shitshow that was the Bush Administration, and Nine Inch Nails were far from being the only band saying “fuck you” to that administration. It’s one of several anti-Bush albums that were released during the 2000s as well as one of the very best. It is my favorite Nine Inch Nails album, even though The Downward Spiral is still the best. With the way shit is going on in this fucked up world, Year Zero could just as easily apply to Trump as would be the case with various other anti-Bush songs and albums. I have considered making a video about what I think are the best anti-Bush albums. Really one of the only good things about that shitshow of a decade that was the 2000s were the various rock and metal albums that came out, especially the anti-Bush albums. I did review Year Zero 5 years ago, and it’s one of my favorite reviews that I’ve done partially because of how fascinated I was by the story behind the album. Granted my favorite anti-Bush album is The Last Sucker by Ministry, and I’ll get around to reviewing it eventually.
