Scratches on the Car

Has anyone actually fixed chips or scratches on their car themselves, without going to a service center?
I got hit by a couple of small stones on the highway - now there are a bunch of tiny dots on the hood and bumper, plus one nasty scratch. It doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it’s really annoying to look at.

Before buying anything, I recommend checking out Best Repair Kits — they have pretty detailed breakdowns by damage type (chips, deep scratches, plastic, etc.) and recommendations on which kits work best for what. This really helped me avoid buying some random junk on a whim.
From personal experience:
– small chips are fairly easy to fix (cleaning + paint + clear coat)
– deep scratches are trickier — they require precision
– the main mistake beginners make is using too much paint or poor surface preparation
If you have reasonably steady hands and take your time, it’s entirely possible to fix it yourself without going to a shop.
I filled in the chips, but if you know where to look, you can see them right away. Though, yeah, it’s better than it was.
